David Murray (racing Driver)
David Murray (28 December 1909 – 5 April 1973) was a British racing driver from Scotland. He participated in five Formula One World Championship Grands Prix, debuting on 13 May 1950, and also founded the Ecurie Ecosse Scottish motor racing team, based at Merchiston Mews in Edinburgh. Murray was a chartered accountant by profession and raced an English Racing Automobiles, ERA and subsequently a Maserati 4CL and 4CLT, Maserati 4CLT both domestically and in European events, before forming Ecurie Ecosse in 1952. He also participated in rallies and hill-climbs. After one World Championship event, for Ecosse, Murray retired as a driver to concentrate on running the team. Ecurie Ecosse won the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Le Mans 24-hour race in both 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1956 and 1957 24 Hours of Le Mans, 1957 each time with a Jaguar D-Type. 1937 24 Hours Of Le Mans
The 1937 24 Hours of Le Mans was the 14th Grand Prix of Endurance, and took place on 19 and 20 June 1937. This race was marred by a massive 6-car accident at Maison Blanche which claimed the lives of 2 drivers. On the eighth lap of the race, the inexperienced French amateur driver René Kippeurt lost control of his Bugatti T44 and it rolled several times, coming to rest in the middle of the road. German Fritz Roth, who closely followed, lost control of his BMW 328 #30, went off of the road and somersaulted. Kippeurt's body was thrown clear from his car, and was lying about 100 metres from the wreck. In an attempt to avoid Roth's car, Briton Pat Fairfield crashed into Kippeurt's Bugatti. Fairfield's car was subsequently rammed by the Delahaye 135CS of Jean Trémoulet which in turn was hit by the Talbot T150C driven by an Argentine count who raced under the pseudonym "Raph", and by the Riley TT Sprite of Raoul Forestier. The 1950 Belgian Grand Prix, formally titled the ''Grand Prix Automobile de Belgique'', was a Formula One motor race held on 18 June 1950 at Spa-Francorchamps. It was race five of seven in the 1950 World Championship of Drivers. The 35-lap race was won by Alfa Romeo driver Juan Manuel Fangio after he started from second position. 1950 Indianapolis 500
The 34th International 500-Mile Sweepstakes was held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Tuesday, May 30, 1950. The event was part of the 1950 AAA National Championship Trail. It was also race 3 of 7 in the 1950 World Championship of Drivers and paid points towards the World Championship. The event, however, did not attract any European Formula One drivers for 1950. Giuseppe Farina originally planned to enter, but his car never arrived. The Indianapolis 500 would be included on the World Championship calendar through 1960. Supercharger
In an internal combustion engine, a supercharger compresses the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement. The current categorisation is that a supercharger is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered (usually by a belt from the engine's crankshaft), as opposed to a turbocharger, which is powered by the kinetic energy of the exhaust gasses. However, up until the mid-20th century, a turbocharger was called a "turbosupercharger" and was considered a type of supercharger. Maserati 4CLT
The Maserati 4CL and its derived sister model the Maserati 4CLT are single-seat open-wheel Grand Prix racing cars that were designed and built by Maserati. The 4CL was introduced at the beginning of the 1939 season, as a rival to the Alfa Romeo 158 and various ERA models in the voiturette class of international Grand Prix motor racing. Although racing ceased during World War II, the 4CL was one of the front running models at the resumption of racing in the late 1940s. Scuderia Ambrosiana
Scuderia Ambrosiana was an Italian motor racing team that competed in Grand Prix motor racing and the Formula One World Championship. The team was founded in 1937 by drivers Giovanni Lurani, Luigi Villoresi, Franco Cortese and Eugenio Minetti and was named after the patron saint of Milan, Saint Ambrose. The team's cars were painted in blue and black after the colours of F.C. Internazionale Milano, which at the time went under the name Ambrosiana Inter. The team competed at the Targa Florio in 1937, 1938 e 1939, where it finished second, third, and second again with Lurani, Cortese and Villoresi.
