David John Munro (born July 1948) was Surrey Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) from 2016 to 2021. A former Conservative PCC, he stood as an independent candidate in 2021 and was defeated. He spent 18 years in the Royal Engineers, rising to the rank of major. Air Vice-Marshal Sir David Munro (23 June 18788 November 1952) was a Scottish physician, senior Royal Air Force officer, and later Rector of the University of St Andrews. As Director of the Royal Air Force Medical Service, he pointed out in 1925 that the speed of air travel from countries where infections were endemic to susceptible countries required consideration by public health administration. David Binning Monro, FBA (16 November 183622 August 1905) was a Scottish Homeric scholar, Provost of Oriel College, Oxford, and Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University. Life David Monro was born in Edinburgh, the grandson of Alexander Monro ''tertius'', professor of anatomy at the University of Edinburgh, whose own father, Alexander Monro ''secondus'' (1733–1817), and grandfather, Alexander Monro ''primus'' (1697–1767), had both filled the same position. David Monro was educated at the University of Glasgow, where he was influenced by Edmund Law Lushington to become a classical scholar. In 1854, he attended Brasenose College, Oxford and, later in the same year transferred to Balliol College, Oxford, where he was a Snell exhibitioner. Sir David Monro (27 March 1813 – 15 February 1877) was a New Zealand politician. He served as Speaker of the New Zealand House of Representatives from 1861 to 1870. Early life Monro was born in Edinburgh. His father was Alexander Monro, a lecturer at the Edinburgh Medical College. Monro was from a long line of doctors, the Monro of Fyrish family that was a branch of clan Munro. He graduated as a Doctor of Medicine from his father's college in 1835. After first studying for a time in Paris, Berlin and Vienna, Monro established a medical practice in Edinburgh. In 1841, however, Monro bought land in the planned settlement at Nelson, New Zealand. He arrived in Nelson the following year. Monro married Dinah Secker on 7 May 1845 and they had five sons and two daughters, including Charles Monro, who introduced rugby union to New Zealand, and Maria Georgiana Monro, who married the Scottish geologist, naturalist, and surgeon James Hector. David Monro (merchant)
David Monro (ca. 1765 – September 3, 1834) was a seigneur, businessman and political figure in Lower Canada. His surname was also sometimes spelled Munro. Life He was born around 1765 in Scotland. The date of his arrival at Quebec is not known but, in 1791, he was involved in administering the dissolving of a partnership between Alexander Davison and John Lees. Monro later became partners with Mathew Bell and, with George Davison, they purchased the Saint-Maurice ironworks in 1793. George Davison died in 1799, which left Monro and Bell the sole owners of the ironworks at Saint-Maurice. In 1804, he was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Saint-Maurice and generally supported the English party. In 1807, Munro married Catherine MacKenzie, who was the sister of Mathew Bell's wife. He helped found the Quebec Committee of Trade in 1809.
