David Edward Lyon (21 November 1948 – 19 December 2019) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Southport. He played as a forward or winger. Life and career Born in Oldham, Lyon began his football career as an apprentice with Bolton Wanderers, and was briefly on the books of Bury, but never played league football for either. He spent just over a season with Mossley, during which he attracted the attention of league clubs, before signing for Macclesfield Town, founder members of the new Northern Premier League. He contributed 10 goals from 57 appearances as Macclesfield won consecutive league titles, and scored the opening goal of a 2–0 win against Telford United in the inaugural FA Trophy Final at Wembley. David Laurie Lyon (16 May 1941 – 7 June 2013) was a British stage, television, and film actor. Early life, education, and early career Of Scottish descent, David Lyon was born in 1941 to Joe Lyon, a diamond merchant, and his wife Margaret. David spent much of his childhood in Sierra Leone where his father worked, before being sent home to be educated at Crofton House in Dumfriesshire in Scotland. He won a scholarship to Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, but was forced to leave education at the age of 16 when his father was declared bankrupt. He first worked in Glasgow for Royal Insurance, before moving south to England to work as a flooring salesman in Birmingham. At the age of 30 he decided to switch careers to acting. David Walker Lyon (born 2 September 1943) is a former English cricketer. Lyon was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm fast-medium. He was born at Douglas, Isle of Man. Lyon made his debut for Cambridgeshire in the 1965 Minor Counties Championship against Bedfordshire. From 1965 to 1972, he represented the county in 15 Minor Counties matches, with his final appearance coming against Bedfordshire. Lyon also represented Cambridgeshire in a single List A cricket match against Buckinghamshire in the 1972 Gillette Cup. In his only List-A match, he took a single wicket at with figures of 1/44. His brother, Andrew, played List A cricket for Buckinghamshire and Middlesex. David Lyon (Dave Lyon, born 1968) is a car designer best known for his work with General Motors where he worked directly from college in 1990 until 2012. He is originally from Naperville, Illinois, United States and has been moved around several General Motors design studios during his career. He is currently working for VinFast, a Vietnamese automobile manufacturer. Career Lyon studied at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Michigan where he received a bachelor of fine arts in transportation design in 1990. David Lyon (born 3 September 1965) is an English former professional rugby league and rugby union footballer who played as a for Widnes, Warrington, St Helens, Sheffield Eagles and the Leigh Centurions. He switched to rugby union in 1996 and finished his playing career with Orrell. He is the son of Geoff Lyon the former Wigan RLFC great who played at Wigan from 1959 to 1969. David Lyon Junior (1794–1872) was a West Indies merchant, Member of parliament, and landowner. His portrait was painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence , and is now in the Museum Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. Background David Lyon senior (1754–1827) was a successful West Indies merchant. He was descended from William Lyon of Pettanys (1433–1498) progenitor of the Easter Ogil branch (Burkes L.G. 1906), 3rd son of Patrick Lyon 1st Lord Glamis (1402–1459). With his wife Isabella Read (1776–1836) he had ten children, of whom David was the third, born on 8 April 1872. David junior was educated at Harrow (1809). In 1825, aged 31, his portrait was painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence, then president of the Royal Academy and at the peak of his career. Lawrence was paid for the painting in 1828, which would seem to have cost the high sum of 700 guineas. David Gordon Lyon (24 May 1852 – 4 December 1935) was an American theologian. He was born in Benton, Alabama, the son of a doctor. In 1875 he received his AB from Howard College in Marion Alabama. (Howard is now Samford University and located in Birmingham, Alabama).. He studied at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary under Crawford Howell Toy, and went to Germany, where he married Tosca Woehler (d. 1904) and received his PhD from the University of Leipzig in 1882, in the study of Syriac. David Malcolm Murray Lyon FRSE DPH (1888-1956) was an English physician and medical author. He was president of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh from 1945–47, and was editor of the Edinburgh Medical Journal. Life He was born in Wooler in Northumberland on 12 September 1888. He was the son of Ebinizer (sic) Campbell and William Malcolm Lyon, a veterinary surgeon. He was educated at George Watson's College then studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh, graduating MB ChB in 1910.
