David Lane (director)
David Lane is a British television and film director, best known for his association with series produced by Gerry Anderson's AP Films. Lane directed several episodes of ''Thunderbirds (TV series), Thunderbirds'' (1965–66), including "Attack of the Alligators!", as well as the two films ''Thunderbirds Are Go'' (1966) and ''Thunderbird 6'' (1968). He also worked on Anderson's other series up to ''UFO (TV series), UFO'' (1970–71) and ''Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet'' (2005), and would go on to collaborate with Anderson stalwart Derek Meddings on several other projects including ''Superman (1978 film), Superman'' (1978). In 2006, he co-founded a new production company, Pineapple Squared Entertainment, with former ''Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends'' director David Mitton and Michele Fabian Jones. AP Films
AP Films or APF, later becoming Century 21 Productions, was a British independent film production company of the 1950s until the early 1970s. The company became internationally known for its imaginative children's action-adventure marionette television series – most significantly '' Thunderbirds'' – produced for British ITV network companies Associated-Rediffusion, Granada, ABC and ATV. At its height, the company employed more than 200 staff. David Mitton
David Nelson Godfrey Mitton (27 February 1939 – 16 May 2008) was a British director, producer, writer, model maker and special effects technician. He was best known for producing and directing the children's television programmes ''Thomas & Friends'' and '' TUGS''. During the 1960s, he worked with Gerry and Sylvia Anderson as a special effects technician on series such as '' Thunderbirds'', ''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons'', ''Joe 90'', ''The Secret Service'' and ''UFO''. Early life Mitton was born on 27 February 1939 in Preston, Prestonpans, East Lothian and educated at The Strathallan School in Perthshire. On leaving school, he briefly attended art school before joining the Royal Air Force. ''Thomas & Friends'' (originally known as ''Thomas the Tank Engine & Friends'' and later ''Thomas & Friends: Big World! Big Adventures!'') is a British children's television series that aired across 24 series from 1984 to 2021. Based on ''The Railway Series'' books by Rev. W. Awdry and his son Christopher, the series was developed for television by Britt Allcroft. Derek Meddings (15 January 1931 – 10 September 1995) was a British film and television special effects designer. He was initially noted for his work on the " Supermarionation" TV puppet series produced by Gerry Anderson, and later for the 1970s and 1980s ''James Bond'' and '' Superman'' film series. Biography Early years Derek Meddings was born in St Pancras, London, England. Both Meddings' parents had worked in the British film industry: his father as a carpenter at Denham Studios and his mother as producer Alex Korda's secretary and actress Merle Oberon's stand-in. Meddings went to art school and, in the late 1940s, also found work at Denham Studios, lettering credit titles. Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet
''Gerry Anderson's New Captain Scarlet'' (more commonly ''New Captain Scarlet'' or ''NCS'') is a British computer generated action-adventure reboot of the 1967 Supermarionation series, ''Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons''. Both series were produced by Gerry Anderson. As a nod to Supermarionation, the new series' computer animation was promoted as " Hypermarionation".Bentley 2008, p. 281. It was the last show produced by Gerry Anderson. The series premiered on the British ITV network in February 2005. UFO (TV Series)
''UFO'' is a 1970 British science fiction television series about the covert efforts of a government defence organisation to prevent an alien invasion of Earth. It was created by Gerry Anderson and Sylvia Anderson with Reg Hill, and produced by the Andersons and Lew Grade's Century 21 for Grade's ITC Entertainment company. A single series of 26 episodes (including the pilot) was filmed over the course of more than a year; a five-month production break was caused by the closure of MGM-British Studios in Borehamwood, where the show was initially made. Production then moved to Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire. ''UFO'' was first broadcast in the UK and Canada in 1970, and in the US syndication over the next two years.
