David Gibson (Australian Politician)
David Francis Gibson (born 13 October 1967) is a former Australian politician who served as the 18th member for Gympie in the Legislative Assembly of Queensland from 2006 to 2015. In January 2015 Gibson retired from State politics. Early life Born in Fremantle, Western Australia, as the eldest of two children to deaf parents. As a child of deaf adults he took on the role of interpreting for his parents to help them communicate in a hearing world. Early career Gibson began his military career in 1985 as an Army Reserve Private in the West Australian University Regiment whilst still at high school. In 1986 he entered the Royal Military College Duntroon and graduated serving as an Army officer for 8½ years before embarking on a career in media marketing and management. Ted Malone (Australian Politician)
George Edward (Ted) Malone (born 14 November 1943) is an Australian politician. He was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly from 1994 to 2015, representing the electorate of electoral district of Mirani, Mirani for the National Party of Australia – Queensland, Nationals and its successor the Liberal National Party of Queensland, Liberal National Party. He was Assistant Minister for Emergency Volunteers between November 2012 and January 2015. Malone was born in Mackay, Queensland, Mackay, and was a cane farmer and grazier before entering politics. He had also served as Chairman of Directors of the Australian Cane Farmers Association. He is married with two daughters. Campbell Newman led the Liberal National Party of Queensland to its first victory at the 2012 state election. 2012 Queensland State Election
The 2012 Queensland state election was held on 24 March 2012 to elect all 89 members of the Legislative Assembly, a unicameral parliament. The Labor Party (ALP), led by Premier Anna Bligh, was defeated by the opposition Liberal National Party (LNP), led by Campbell Newman. It is only the sixth time that Queenslanders have ousted a sitting government since 1915. The ALP was attempting to win a ninth consecutive election victory, having won every general election since 1989, despite being out of office between 1996 and 1998. Katter's Australian Party contested its first election. Before the election, it held two seats whose members had been elected as LNP candidates. Labor suffered one of the worst defeats of a state government since Federation, and the worst defeat of a sitting government in Queensland history.
