David Ellis (scriptwriter)
David Ellis (born Derrick Francis Kerkham; 22 June 1918 – 30 June 1978) was the co-writer with Malcolm Hulke of the ''Doctor Who'' serial ''The Faceless Ones'', recorded with Patrick Troughton in 1967. The story was penned by the duo following the rejection of previous scripts by the two men. Indeed, Ellis himself had seen his script ideas for “The Clock”, “The People Who Couldn't Remember” and “The Ocean Liner” all rejected. Their script “The Big Store” was also finally not commissioned despite extensive work, though some of the ideas about the substitution of people by replicas was taken further in ''The Faceless Ones'', with the scenario changed from a department store to an airport. David Ellis's other writing credits include Paul Temple, Spy Trap, and many episodes of ''Dixon of Dock Green'' in the 1960s and ''Z-Cars'' in the late 1960s and early 1970s. David Wertz Ellis (born February 8, 1936) is an American consultant who previously worked as the president and director of the Museum of Science (Boston), interim president of the Boston Children's Museum, and the president of Lafayette College. Since 2002, he has worked in the greater Boston area as a non-profit organization management consultant working mostly with museums and science centers. In 2018, Ellis was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by ''Marquis Who's Who''. Early life Ellis was born in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, to parents Calvert Nice and Elizabeth Oller Ellis (née Wertz). His father was at one time the president of Juniata College. Prof David Ellis FRSE (1874–1937) was a Scottish bacteriologist, botanist and baker. He was an academic author in all three fields. Life He was born in Aberystwyth in north Wales on 9 June 1874. He attended the University College of Wales 1890-96. From 1896 to 1898 he was Science Master at the County School in Aberystwyth. He then went to the University of London gaining a doctorate (DSc) before going to Marburg University where he gained a second doctorate (PhD). In 1904 he became a Lecturer in Botany and Bacteriology at the West of Scotland Technical College. He married Jeannie Wright Paulin in Muckhart in 1906, and the same year he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh. David Ellis (composer)
David Ellis (10 March 1933 – 20 April 2023) was an English composer, arranger and music producer at the BBC. Ellis was born in Liverpool, attending the Liverpool Institute (where he first met fellow composer John McCabe), and then the Royal Manchester College of Music (1953–57) where his composition teacher was Thomas Pitfield. His contemporaries studying there included Harrison Birtwistle, Peter Maxwell Davies, Alexander Goehr, Elgar Howarth and John Ogdon. From 1964 Ellis worked as a producer at the BBC, becoming Head of Music for BBC North in 1977. In 1986 he took up the position of artistic director, Northern Chamber Orchestra where he was also composer-in-residence. From the mid-1990s Ellis took up composition full-time. David Thomson Ellis (10 April 1869 – 29 January 1940) was a Scottish footballer who played as a centre-forward and made one appearance for the Scotland national team. Club career Ellis played for Mossend Swifts in the early 1890s, but also featured in a friendly match for Heart of Midlothian on 1 March 1890. He joined Heart of Midlothian in the second half of the 1891–92 season, where he played until the end of the following season, making fourteen appearances and scoring two goals for the club in the Scottish Football League.
