David De Roure
David Charles De Roure PhD FBCS FIMA CITP is a Professor of e-Research at the University of Oxford, where he is responsible for Digital Humanities in The Oxford Research Centre in the Humanities (TORCH), and is a Turing Fellow at The Alan Turing Institute. He was Director of the Oxford e-Research Centre (OeRC) from 2012-17. From 2009 to 2013 he held the post of National Strategic Director for e-Social Science. and was subsequently a Strategic Advisor to the UK Economic and Social Research Council in the area of new and emerging forms of data and realtime analytics. He is a supernumerary Fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. and Oxford Martin School Senior Alumni Fellow. North London is the northern part of London, England, north of the River Thames. It extends from Clerkenwell and Finsbury, on the edge of the City of London financial district, to Greater London's boundary with Hertfordshire. Wolfson College, Oxford
Wolfson College () is a constituent college of the University of Oxford in England. Located in north Oxford along the River Cherwell, Wolfson is an all-graduate college with around sixty governing body fellows, in addition to both research and junior research fellows. It caters to a wide range of subjects, from the humanities to the social and natural sciences. Like the majority of Oxford's newer colleges, it has been coeducational since its foundation in 1965. OMII-UK
OMII-UK is an open-source software organisation for the UK research community. OMII-UK have a number of roles within the UK research community: helping new users get started with E-research, providing the software that is needed and developing that software if it does not exist. OMII-UK also help to guide the development of E-research by liaising with national and international organisations, e-Research groups, standards' groups, and the researchers themselves. Semantic Grid
A semantic grid is an approach to grid computing in which information, computing resources and services are described using the semantic data model. In this model, the data and metadata are expressed through facts (small sentences), becoming directly understandable for humans. This makes it easier for resources to be discovered and combined automatically to create virtual organizations (VOs). The descriptions constitute metadata and are typically represented using the technologies of the Semantic Web, such as the Resource Description Framework (RDF). Like the Semantic Web, the semantic grid can be defined as "an extension of the current grid in which information and services are given well-defined meaning, better enabling computers and people to work in cooperation." In computing, a Research Object is a method for the identification, aggregation and exchange of scholarly information on the Web. The primary goal of the research object approach is to provide a mechanism to associate related resources about a scientific investigation so that they can be shared using a single identifier. As such, research objects are an advanced form of Enhanced publication. MyExperiment
myExperiment is a social web site for researchers sharing research objects such as scientific workflows. E-Science
E-Science or eScience is computationally intensive science that is carried out in highly distributed network environments, or science that uses immense data sets that require grid computing; the term sometimes includes technologies that enable distributed collaboration, such as the Access Grid. Wessex Lane Halls
Wessex Lane Halls is a halls of residence complex owned by the University of Southampton. It is situated in the Swaythling district of Southampton, approximately one mile north-east of the University campus in Highfield. The complex is formed of South Stoneham House, Connaught Hall and Montefiore House. There are over 1800 undergraduate and postgraduate students living in Wessex Lane Halls. University of Southampton students living in Halls are supported by the Residences Support Service, who are available throughout the night. The students organise their own social events, sports teams and deal with welfare issues through the JCR (Junior Common Room) committee which is elected each year. Electronics and Computer Science, generally abbreviated "ECS", at the University of Southampton was founded in 1946 by Professor Erich Zepler. Sonicaid
Sonicaid Ltd was a medical electronics company headquartered in West Sussex best known for its range of Doppler fetal monitors. The company also developed early ultrasound scanners. The word "Sonicaid" is in generic use for Doppler fetal monitors. Sonicaid is now a registered trademark of Huntleigh Healthcare. Fetal monitors Sonicaid developed a range of fetal monitors, notably the portable Doppler ultrasound products D102, D104 ("Pocket Sonicaid", winner of a Design Council Award for medical equipment in 1976), D205 and D206 which provided audible output of fetal heart sounds.
