David D. Pearce
David Duane Pearce (born June 9, 1950) is an American diplomat who served from 2013 to 2016 as the U.S. Ambassador to Greece. He also served as the United States Ambassador to Algeria, 2008–11 and as the U.S. Consul General in Jerusalem from 2003-2005. He was the Assistant Chief of Mission at the U.S. embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan from 2011-2012; and served as the Acting United States Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan and as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia from 2012-2013. Career Pearce graduated from Bowdoin College in 1972, and received an M.A. in journalism from Ohio State University in 1973. Prior to joining the U.S. Foreign Service in 1982, he was a reporter, editor and foreign correspondent for nearly a decade. The ambassador of the United States to Algeria is the official representative of the president of the United States to the head of state of Algeria. Until 1962, Algeria had been under the dominion of France. Independence from France was formally declared on July 3, 1962. The United States and France both formally recognized Algeria on that same day. The Ottoman government had recognized the United States in 1795, but formal diplomatic relations had not been established. The U.S. has had consular representation in Algeria intermittently since 1796. Ryan Clark Crocker (born June 19, 1949) is an American retired diplomat who served as a career ambassador within the United States Foreign Service and a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom. He has served as United States Ambassador to Afghanistan (2011–2012), Iraq (2007–2009), Pakistan (2004–2007), Syria (1998–2001), Kuwait (1994– 1997), and Lebanon (1990–1993).
