David Caesar
David Caesar (born 1963) is an Australian television and film director and writer. He grew up in Turlinjah on the south coast of NSW and attended school in nearby Moruya where he was school captain in his senior year. Caesar graduated from the Australian Film Television and Radio School in 1987. He won an AWGIE and best director at Shanghai Film Festival for his film MULLET. He won a Queensland Premiers Literary award for the screenplay for PRIME MOVER in 2008. Australian Film Television And Radio School
The Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) formerly Australian Film and Television School, is Australia's national screen arts and broadcast school. The school is a Commonwealth Government statutory authority. History Established in 1972 as the Australian Film and Television School, as part of the Commonwealth Government's strategy to promote the development of Australia's cultural activity, AFTRS was opened to students in 1973, with the first intake of 12 students including directors Gillian Armstrong, Phillip Noyce and Chris Noonan. In 1973 Jerzy Toeplitz was appointed Foundation Director of the School and after six years in the role was awarded the Order of Australia and the AFI's Longford Lyell Award. ''Book of Shadows: Blair Witch 2'' is a 2000 American metafiction horror film directed and co-written by Joe Berlinger and starring Jeffrey Donovan, Stephen Barker Turner, Kim Director, Erica Leerhsen, and Tristine Skyler. ''Prime Mover'' is a 2009 Australian romantic crime film which stars Michael Dorman, Emily Barclay, Ben Mendelsohn, Gyton Grantley, William McInnes, Anthony Hayes and Andrew S. Gilbert. It is directed by acclaimed film and television director David Caesar of '' Mullet'' and '' Dirty Deeds'' fame, in which he also worked with McInnes, Mendelsohn and Gilbert. The film was released to European audiences in Germany on 8 February 2009 and in Australia on 8 June 2009. Production David Caesar first wrote the script in 1983. The Australian Film Commission had provided Caesar money to research the script in Alice Springs and offered him $1 million to make the movie but Caesar felt that he needed $2 million. In the late 1980s he almost got the film funded through the Film Finance Corporation but was unable and instead made ''Greenkeeper''. Having left for the city without explanation 3 years ago, he tries to pick up the pieces of his life and fit back into the lives of those he left, including his ex-girlfriend Tully (Susie Porter) and brother Pete (Andrew Gilbert). The title of the film comes from Eddie's nickname and from his attempts to make a living poaching mullet. The film succeeds in a very human portrayal of the difficulties in living on the fringe of a close-knit community.
