Thomas David Briggs (born 25 August 1946, Huddersfield, West Riding of Yorkshire) is a British businessman based in Cheshire, England. He served as the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire until August 2021. Education He was educated at the Charterhouse School. He then received a First Class Honours Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of St Andrews. He then received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Business career He has lived in Cheshire since 1979. He was managing director and then Chairman of Dawsons Music until 2018. He and his family have lived at Dukenfield Hall in Mobberley since 1987. Voluntary service He has volunteered with the St John Ambulance since 1975. He has been chairman and then President of Warrington Youth Club since 1980. Huddersfield
Huddersfield is a market town in the Kirklees district in West Yorkshire, England. It is the administrative centre and largest settlement in the Kirklees district. The town is in the foothills of the Pennines. Reserve Forces And Cadets Association
Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Associations (RFCAs) are Crown bodies in the United Kingdom which give advice and assistance to the Defence Council, and to the Army, Royal Navy and RAF, on matters that concern reserves and cadets. They are contracted by the Ministry of Defence to provide services including management of the volunteer estate, employer support, cadets and youth and to establish and maintain links with the civilian community. Established in 1908 (known then as the County Associations), they are today organised as 13 regional associations, comprising voluntary members and a small full-time secretariat. Winsford
Winsford is a town and civil parish in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England, on the River Weaver south of Northwich and west of Middlewich. Knutsford
Knutsford () is a market town in the borough of Cheshire East, in Cheshire, England. Knutsford is south-west of Manchester, north-west of Macclesfield and 12.5 miles (20 km) south-east of Warrington. The population at the 2011 Census was 13,191. Cheshire County Cricket Club is one of twenty minor county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Cheshire. Sea Cadets (United Kingdom)
The Sea Cadet Corps is a national youth charity, working with 15,000 young people between 10 and 18 years old across the UK. It has over 400 units across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Malta and Bermuda all run by 9,000 volunteers. Cadets follow a similar ethos, training plan, and rank structure, to the Royal Navy, and are recognised by the UK Ministry of Defence. History In 1854 a Vicar in Whitstable, Kent, returning from the Crimean War noticed many local orphans on the street, he set up an orphanage encouraging sailors to form a group to help them. This led to multiple other orphanages being set up across the country. Back then the organisation was known as the Naval Lads' Brigade with sailors teaching orphans nautical skills to help them find careers in the future. Air Training Corps
The Air Training Corps (ATC) is a British volunteer-military youth organisation. They are sponsored by the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Air Force. The majority of staff are volunteers, and some are paid for full-time work – including Commandant Air Cadets, a Full Term Reserve Service RAF officer. In 2013, the officer in command of the ATC was Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty. Although many ATC cadets go on to join the RAF or other services, the ATC is not a recruiting organisation for its parent service. Army Cadet Force
The Army Cadet Force (ACF), generally shortened to Army Cadets, is a national youth organisation sponsored by the United Kingdom's Ministry of Defence and the British Army. Along with the Sea Cadet Corps and the Air Training Corps, the ACF make up the Community Cadet Forces. It is a separate organisation from the Combined Cadet Force which provides similar training within principally independent schools. Although sponsored by the Ministry of Defence, the ACF is not part of the British Army, and as such cadets are not subject to military 'call up'.
