Box Set
A box set or (its original name) boxed set is a set of items (for example, a compilation of books, musical recordings, films or television programs) traditionally packaged in a box and offered for sale as a single unit. Music Artists and bands with an extremely long and successful career often have anthology or "essential" collections of their boxes of music released as box sets. These often include rare and never-before-released tracks. Some box sets collect previously released boxes of singles or albums by a music artist, and often collect the complete discography of an artist such as Pink Floyd's ''Oh, by the Way'' and ''Discovery'' sets. Sometimes bands release expanded versions of their most successful albums such as Pink Floyd's ''Immersion'' box set versions of their ''The Dark Side of the Moon'' (1973), ''Wish You Were Here'' (1975) and ''The Wall'' (1979) albums. Pink Floyd have also released ''The Early Years 1965–1972'' box set which features mostly unreleased mate ...

Sony Music Entertainment
Sony Music Entertainment (SME), also known as simply Sony Music, is an American multinational music company. Being owned by the parent conglomerate Sony Group Corporation, it is part of the Sony Music Group, which is owned by Sony Entertainment and managed by the American umbrella division of Sony. It was originally founded in 1929 as American Record Corporation and renamed as Columbia Recording Corporation in 1938, following its acquisition by the Columbia Broadcasting System. In 1966, the company was reorganized to become CBS Records, and Sony Corporation bought the company in 1988, renaming it under its current name in 1991. In 2004, Sony and Bertelsmann established a 50-50 joint venture known as Sony BMG, which transferred the businesses of Sony Music and Bertelsmann Music Group into one entity. However, in 2008, Sony acquired Bertelsmann's stake, and the company reverted to the Sony Music name shortly after; the buyout allowed Sony to acquire all of BMG's labels, which ...

Basquiat (film)
''Basquiat'' is a 1996 American biographical drama film directed, co-written and co-composed by Julian Schnabel in his feature directorial debut. The film is based on the life of American postmodernist/ neo expressionist artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. It is the first film about an American painter written and directed by another artist. Jeffrey Wright portrays Basquiat, a Brooklyn-born artist who used his graffiti roots as a foundation to create collage-style paintings on canvas. David Bowie plays Basquiat's friend and mentor, pop artist Andy Warhol. Additional cast members include Gary Oldman as a thinly disguised Schnabel, Michael Wincott as the poet and art critic Rene Ricard, Dennis Hopper as Bruno Bischofberger, Parker Posey as gallery owner Mary Boone, Christopher Walken as a devious, intrusive journalist, Willem Dafoe as a supportive artist who’s making ends meet as an electrician, and Claire Forlani, Courtney Love, Tatum O'Neal, and Benicio del Toro in supporting roles as ...

Audio Mixing (recorded Music)
In sound recording and reproduction, audio mixing is the process of optimizing and combining multitrack recordings into a final mono, stereo or surround sound product. In the process of combining the separate tracks, their relative levels are adjusted and balanced and various processes such as equalization and compression are commonly applied to individual tracks, groups of tracks, and the overall mix. In stereo and surround sound mixing, the placement of the tracks within the stereo (or surround) field are adjusted and balanced. Audio mixing techniques and approaches vary widely and have a significant influence on the final product. Audio mixing techniques largely depend on music genres and the quality of sound recordings involved. The process is generally carried out by a mixing engineer, though sometimes the record producer or recording artist may assist. After mixing, a mastering engineer prepares the final product for production. Audio mixing may be performed on a mixing ...

Strangers When We Meet (David Bowie Song)
"Strangers When We Meet" is a song by David Bowie, originally recorded for his 1993 album '' The Buddha of Suburbia''. In 1995, Bowie re-recorded the song for his ''Outside'' album, and this version was edited and released as the second single from the album, paired with a reworked version of Bowie's 1970 song " The Man Who Sold the World". Development "Strangers When We Meet" is a song that Bowie recorded 3 times: once in 1993 with Reeves Gabrels and his band Modern Farmer (unreleased), once in 1993 with Bowie's band for release on the album ''The Buddha of Suburbia'', and then again in 1994–95 for inclusion on ''Outside''. Both biographers Nicholas Pegg and Chris O'Leary agree that the song seemed out-of-place on ''Outside'': Pegg says that song, "at the end of ''1. Outside''s art-rock insanity, 'Strangers When We Meet' seems even more incongruous, resolving all the album's angst and black comedy in a soothing slice of conventional pop", and O'Leary calls the song "transi ...

I'm Deranged
"I'm Deranged" is a song written by David Bowie and Brian Eno in 1995 for the album ''Outside''. Musically and lyrically, it shares many themes with " Look Back in Anger" from '' Lodger'' (1979), including the appearance of an angel figure before an artist. The two songs were frequently played together during the 1995 Outside Tour. Other releases * Two different edits were featured in the film '' Lost Highway'' in 1997. The song was played during both the intro and the end credits and appears on the soundtrack. * A "Jungle remix" was released on the single " Dead Man Walking" in March 1997. * This jungle mix was played live often during the dance set of the '' Earthling Tour''. One of these performances appeared on the live album ''LiveAndWell.com''. * The musical intro is used as the title theme on Swedish serial Beck. Cover versions * Sybil Vane – ''.2 Contamination: A Tribute to David Bowie'' (2006) * Müslüm Gürses – ''Aşk Tesadüfleri Sever '' (2006) (covered wit ...

Hallo Spaceboy
"Hallo Spaceboy" is a song by David Bowie from his 1995 album '' Outside'', and the third and final single from the album. The track was re-recorded in 1996 and issued as a remix featuring Pet Shop Boys as guest artists. Bowie and Brian Eno co-wrote the original album version of the song. Song development Written in early 1995, Bowie biographers Nicholas Pegg and Chris O'Leary point to the influence of the work of Brion Gysin on the song, who purportedly spoke the words "Moon dust will cover me" just before his death in 1986. Recording partner Reeves Gabrels recalled writing a song fragment called "Moondust" in mid-1994, which he thinks may have also influenced the song. Bowie wrote and recorded the song in mostly-improvised sessions with his band in 1995, and intentionally wrote it with a Nine Inch Nails-like vibe. Early work on the song was done with Brian Eno, Carlos Alomar, and drummer Joey Baron. After finishing the track, Bowie said "I adore that track. In my mind ...

The Hearts Filthy Lesson
"The Hearts Filthy Lesson" (no apostrophe in "Hearts") is a song by David Bowie, from his 1995 album ''Outside'', and issued as a single ahead of the album. It showcased Bowie's new, industrial-influenced sound. Lyrically, the single connects with the rest of the album, with Bowie offering a lament to "tyrannical futurist" Ramona A. Stone, a theme continued in subsequent songs. The song is also meant to confront Bowie's own perceptions about the ritual creation and degradation of art. It appears in the end credits of the 1995 film ''Seven''. Song development The song came out of the March 1994 ''Leon'' sessions in which Bowie and his band had performed long, improvised musical numbers, from which much of the album ''Outside'' was born. Due to the song coming out of band experimentation, the song is credited with 6 authors: Bowie, Brian Eno, Reeves Gabrels, Mike Garson, Erdal Kızılçay, and Sterling Campbell. Bowie would say that the song "doesn't have a straightforwar ...

Reality (David Bowie Album)
''Reality'' is the 24th studio album by English musician David Bowie, originally released in Europe on 15September 2003, and the following day in America. His second release through his own ISO label, the album was recorded between January and May 2003 at Looking Glass Studios in New York City, with production by Bowie and longtime collaborator Tony Visconti. Envisioned by Bowie as a set of songs that could be played live, most of the musicians consisted of his then-touring band. A mostly straightforward rock album with a more direct sound compared to its predecessor '' Heathen'' (2002), ''Reality'' contains covers of the Modern Lovers' "Pablo Picasso" and George Harrison's "Try Some, Buy Some". One of the tracks, " Bring Me the Disco King", dated back to 1992. A primary theme throughout ''Reality'' concerns reflections on ageing, while other songs focus on despaired and diminished characters. The cover artwork depicts Bowie as an anime-style character that exhibited the idea ...

Heathen (David Bowie Album)
''Heathen'' (stylised as ''uǝɥʇɐǝɥ'') is the 23rd studio album by English musician David Bowie, originally released in Europe on 10 June 2002, and the following day in America. His first release through his own ISO label, it reunited Bowie with producer Tony Visconti for the two's first full-album collaboration since 1980. Recording took place at New York studios from August 2001 to January 2002 and featured guest musicians, including Dave Grohl and Pete Townshend. Two tracks, "Afraid" and "Slip Away", evolved from Bowie's shelved ''Toy'' project, while three were covers of songs by Pixies, Neil Young and the Legendary Stardust Cowboy. Musically, ''Heathen'' displays an art rock and art pop sound reminiscent of Bowie's 1970s works. The spiritual lyrics, reflected in the artwork and packaging, were based on his accumulated feelings of dread, thoughts on ageing and hopes for a better future for his newborn daughter. Commentators interpreted some tracks, particularly " ...
