David De Barry, 5th Viscount Buttevant
David Fitz-James de Barry, 18th Baron Barry, 5th Viscount Buttevant (1550–1617), sided initially with fitz Maurice, the rebel, in the 1st Desmond rebellion but changed sides and fought against the rebels. He also fought for the crown in the Nine Years' War. Birth and origins David, born 1550, was the second son of James de Barry and Ellen MacCarthy Reagh. His father was the 4th Viscount Buttevant. David Barry, 1st Earl of Barrymore, 19th Baron Barry, 6th Viscount Buttevant (1605–1642) was an Irish peer. Birth and Origins David was born on 10 March 1605 probably at Buttevant, County Cork, a posthumous child of David de Barry and his wife Elizabeth Power. Barry's grandfather had been the 5th Viscount Buttevant. His mother was a daughter of Richard Power, 4th Baron le Power and Curraghmore. Early life and marriage He succeeded to the Buttevant estates on 10 April 1617 on the death of his grandfather. In 1631 he married the Lady Alice Boyle, daughter of Richard Boyle, 1st Earl of Cork, by his second wife, Catherine Fenton. David Barry FRS (12 March 1780 – 4 November 1835) was an Irish physician and physiologist. Life Barry was born in county Roscommon, Ireland. He completed his medical education at home, and entered the army as an Assistant-Surgeon in 1806; present as surgeon, 58th foot, at the Battle of Salamanca; and afterwards held several Peninsular appointments. Studies and career In 1822–26, he studied physiology and medicine at Paris, and there read several original papers before the Academy of Sciences and the Académie Nationale de Médecine on the influence of atmospheric pressure on various functions of the body. The experiments on which these were based were repeated before Cuvier, Duméril, Laennec, Cruvelhier, and other eminent men of science, and much commended. David Francis Barry (March 6, 1854 – March 6, 1934) was a 19th-century photographer of the American West. Early life Barry was born in Honeoye Falls, New York. In 1861, his family moved west to Otsego, Wisconsin and the following year to nearby Columbus. While growing up in Columbus, Wisconsin David F. Barry landed odd jobs assisting an itinerant photographer named Orlando Scott Goff who had maintained a small gallery in that city. Career In 1871, Orlando Scott Goff moved to Yankton, Dakota Territory opening up the first photographer's studio in that settlement and two years later relocated to Bismarck. Goff sent for Barry to join him in 1878, his former young helper, taking him under his wings as an apprentice to assist him at his new Bismarck gallery. Dave Barry (31 August 1888 – 22 July 1913) was an Australian rules footballer who played with South Melbourne in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Barry, who came from local club Leopold, had a brief but successful career at South Melbourne. He was one of South Melbourne's half forward flankers in their 1909 premiership team. Dave Barry (Irish Footballer)
Dave Barry (born 16 September 1961) is an Irish former sportsperson. He played Gaelic football with his local club St Finbarr's and was a member at senior level of the Cork county team from 1980 until 1991. Barry also played association football for Tramore Athletic, and played with (and managed) Cork City, making his League of Ireland debut in Cork's first ever League game on 16 September 1984. As a player, he won a league title, several national cups and played in numerous European ties for the club. When in charge, he won City's second FAI Cup and the side were also at the top end of the League of Ireland table under his stewardship. Perhaps his most famous moment is scoring the goal that put Cork City 1–0 up against giants Bayern Munich at Musgrave Park in the 1991–92 UEFA Cup.
