David Abrahams (businessman)
David Martin Abrahams (born 13 November 1944) is an English entrepreneur, philanthropist and political activist. Early life Abrahams was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, and brought up in Whitley Bay as the only child in a strongly political family. His father Bennie Abrahams (1906–1990) was a Labour councillor for the Monkchester ward of Newcastle City Councilfor 35 years, and served as the city's Lord Mayor for one year in 1981-2. His mother Marion Marcelline Abrahams was a concert hall violinist for the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and a Labour councillor in Newcastle. Abrahams was educated at Ascham House preparatory school, now Newcastle School for Boys in Gosforth, and passed his 11+ to Rutherford Grammar School. In 1977, Mohammed Ali paid a visit to the Abrahams family home in Gosforth, where his 105-year-old Grandmother Annie Abrahams chatted to him about the underprivileged. David Abrahams (computer Programmer)
David Abrahams is a computer programmer and author. He is the son of physicist Elihu Abrahams and choreographer Geulah Abrahams. He is most well known for his activities related to the C++ programming language. In particular his contributions to the language include the delineating of a theory of exceptions, sitting on the C++ Standards Committee, being a founding member of Boost and co-authoring a book on the subject of template metaprogramming. Abrahams became a member of the C++ Standards Committee in 1996 and served until 2012. During the standardization process that resulted in the first ANSI standard C++ – in 1998 – Abrahams was a principal driving force behind detailing the exception safety of the C++ Standard Library. Many of the functions and methods of the standard are specified with one of three guarantees. Together these have become known as the Abrahams guarantees. David Abrahams (mathematician)
Ian David Abrahams (born 15 January 1958) is an English mathematician and held the Beyer Professor of Applied Mathematics at the University of Manchester, 2008–2016. From 2014–16 he was Director of the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences in Edinburgh and in October 2016 he succeeded John Toland as Director of the Isaac Newton Institute for Mathematical Sciences, and N M Rothschild and Sons Professor of Mathematics, in Cambridge. He was President 2007–2009, of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications. In 2017 he was awarded the IMA/ LMS David Crighton Medal for services to mathematics. Education Born in Manchester, Abrahams was the son of Harry Abrahams and of Leila Abrahams. David Abrahams (swimmer)
David Henry Abrahams (born May 3, 2001) is a blind American Paralympic swimmer. He represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Early life and education Abrahams attended Haverford High School in Havertown, Pennsylvania. He earned NISCA All American honors in 2018 and 2019. Abrahams attended Harvard University where he was a member of their swim team. Career Abrahams represented the United States in the 100 metre breaststroke SB13 event at the 2020 Summer Paralympics and won a silver medal. On April 29, 2023, Abrahams was named to the roster to represent the United States at the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships. During the World Championship he won a bronze medal in the 100 metre breaststroke SB13 event. In January 2024, Abrahams announced that the 2024 Summer Paralympics will be his final major international event.
