Davenport (provincial Electoral District)
Davenport is a provincial riding in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was created in 1999 from parts of Oakwood, Dovercourt, Parkdale, High Park—Swansea and a small part of York South. When the riding was created, it included all of Metro Toronto within the following line: Dovercourt Road to the CN railway to the Old Toronto city limits to Old Weston Road to Rogers Road to another CN railway to Eglinton Avenue to Dufferin Street to Rogers Road to Oakwood Avenue to Holland Park Avenue to Winona Drive to Davenport Road to Ossington Avenue to the CP railway back to Dovercourt Road. In 2007, the boundaries were extended in the east so that they continued along Ossington south of the CP railway until Dundas Street and in the northwest the boundary became Keele Street and Lavender Road instead of the old city limits. Holland Park Avenue
Holland Park Avenue is a street located in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in west central London. The street runs from Notting Hill Gate in the east to the Holland Park Roundabout in the west, forms a part of the old west road connecting London with Oxford and the west of England, and is designated part of the A402 road. Holland Park Avenue's present design was laid out in the 19th century. Despite being a busy traffic artery, the street is elegantly lined with large well-established plane trees and boasts attractive terraces of large Victorian townhouses, as well as numerous high-end shops and restaurants. Tony Ruprecht
Tony Ruprecht (born December 12, 1942) is a former Canadian politician. His first elected position was as an alderman in the old Toronto City Council, in the late 1970s. He became a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1981, and served in premier David Peterson's cabinet as minister without portfolio from 1985 to 1987. Ruprecht represented Toronto's Parkdale and then Davenport constituencies for the Liberal Party of Ontario for 30 years. On July 5, 2011, he announced that he was leaving politics and would not seek re-election in the October 2011 provincial election. Miguel Figueroa
Miguel Figueroa (born July 29, 1952) is a Canadian political activist who was the leader of the Communist Party of Canada from 1992 to 2015. He is known for the landmark Figueroa case, which redefined the role of small parties and Canadian Parliamentary democracy, as well as his role re-establishing the Communist Party of Canada in the post-Soviet era. Early political career Figueroa was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He attended Dawson College, McGill and Concordia in Montreal, before joining the staff of the National Union of Students in 1975 as a national field organizer. Figueroa joined the Communist Party in 1977 and held many positions within the Party. In 1978, he became the party's Greater Vancouver organizer, working with people such as city councilors Harry Rankin and Bruce Yorke as well as Party activists across the region. Frank De Jong
Frank de Jong (born October 16, 1955) is a Canadian politician, environmentalist, and elementary school teacher. He joined the Green Party of Ontario in 1987 and became the party's first official leader in 1993 – a position he held until November 14, 2009, when he was succeeded by Mike Schreiner. From 2017 to 2019 he was the leader of the Yukon Green Party. De Jong has also campaigned for federal office as a member of the Green Party of Canada. Jonah Schein
Jonah Schein (born ) is a former politician in Ontario, Canada. He was a New Democratic Party member in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in the Toronto Davenport riding from 2011 to 2014. Prior to winning the 2011 provincial election, he was also an unsuccessful candidate for municipal office in part of the same electoral district in the 2010 City of Toronto elections. Jerry Levitan (born 1954) is a Canadian best known as "the kid who interviewed John Lennon". He produced and starred in the animated short ''I Met the Walrus'' about his meeting with John Lennon and Yoko Ono in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1969. Marit Stiles () (born September 20, 1969) is a Canadian politician who has represented Davenport in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since June 7, 2018. York South (provincial Electoral District)
York South was a provincial riding in Ontario, Canada, that was represented in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1926 to 1999. History The provincial riding of York South first came into existence for the 1926 Ontario election. It was slightly smaller than the federal riding but covered much of the same area. For most of the period after World War II, it was a bastion of the Ontario CCF and its successor, the NDP, being the riding of three CCF/NDP leaders in the Ontario legislature, Ted Jolliffe, Donald C. Keele Street
Keele Street is a north–south road in Toronto, Vaughan and King in Ontario, Canada. It stretches , running from Bloor Street in Toronto to the Holland Marsh. South of Bloor Street, the roadway is today known as Parkside Drive, but was originally part of Keele Street. It was renamed in 1921 by the City of Toronto. Most of Keele Street runs directly along a former concession road (Third Line West of Yonge Street) allowance.
