Davenport, Toronto
Davenport is a neighbourhood northwest of downtown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is north of the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks and Dupont Avenue and south of Davenport Road and the ridge that is the former Lake Iroquois coastline. Its eastern boundary is Bathurst Street and it stretches west to Lansdowne Avenue. It is contained within the larger city-recognized neighbourhood of Corso Italia-Davenport. The neighbourhood lends its name to federal, provincial and municipal ridings that cover it and a number of neighbouring areas. History Davenport Road follows a centuries old carrying trail the First Nations peoples used to travel the route south of the ridge. It was also an important route by the early European settlers to the region and the area that is today Davenport became home to small farms in the early nineteenth century. The traditional boundaries of the neighbourhood are north to Dupont Street, south to Bloor Street, west to Bathurst Street and east to Avenue Road. Seaton Village
Seaton Village is a neighbourhood and former village located west of Downtown Toronto in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is named after John Colborne, 1st Baron Seaton, Lieutenant-Governor of Upper Canada from 1828 to 1836. Seaton Village is bordered by Bloor Street to the south, the Canadian Pacific Railway tracks to the north, Christie Street to the west, and Bathurst Street to the east. Officially, it is an enclave within The Annex neighbourhood, as defined by the City of Toronto. It is sometimes referred to as the West Annex. Dovercourt Park
Dovercourt Park or Dovercourt Village is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada situated north of Bloor Street between Christie Street to the east, the CPR railway lines to the north, and Dufferin Street to the west. History The Village of Dovercourt, located north of Dupont, was founded in the 1870s. Its residents were originally poor immigrants from England living in dozens of one and two bedroom tar and paper shacks which initially resulted in the village being called a shantytown. The village was annexed by the old City of Toronto in 1910 along with the Earlscourt area. City services were extended to the neighbourhood helping stimulate its growth and development by 1923. Wychwood Park
Wychwood Park is a neighbourhood enclave and private community in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is located west of Bathurst Street on the north side of Davenport Road, within the larger area of Bracondale Hill. It is considered part of the overall Wychwood official neighbourhood as designated by the City of Toronto. History Wychwood Park was founded as an artists' colony in the late nineteenth century, as a private project by painter Marmaduke Matthews and businessman Alexander Jardine. The area was then still a rural region on the edge of the city, and Matthews planned out a picturesque community that he named after Wychwood forest in Oxfordshire, England. Earlscourt is a neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It is centred on St. Clair Avenue West, with Dufferin Street, Davenport Road, and Old Weston Road forming its boundaries. It is contained within the larger city-recognized neighbourhood of Corso Italia-Davenport. Earlscourt Park is located on the south side of St. Clair between Caledonia Park Road and Lansdowne Avenue. History Earlscourt began as a squatter settlement in the early 20th century and annexed by the City of Toronto in 1910. It was initially settled by British and Scottish immigrants.
