Dave Maurer (baseball)
David Charles Maurer (born February 23, 1975) is an American former Major League Baseball player. A pitcher, Maurer played for the San Diego Padres ( and ), Cleveland Indians (), and Toronto Blue Jays (). Maurer attended Apple Valley High School in Apple Valley, Minnesota. He played college baseball at Howard College and Oklahoma State University. In 1996, he played collegiate summer baseball with the Orleans Cardinals of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He was selected by the Padres in the 11th round of the 1997 MLB Draft The 1997 First-Year Player Draft, Major League Baseball's annual amateur draft of high school and college baseball players, was held on June 2 and 3, 1997. In baseball, the pitcher is the player who throws ("pitches") the baseball from the pitcher's mound toward the catcher to begin each play, with the goal of retiring a batter, who attempts to either make contact with the pitched ball or draw a walk. In the numbering system used to record defensive plays, the pitcher is assigned the number 1. The pitcher is often considered the most important player on the defensive side of the game, and as such is situated at the right end of the defensive spectrum.
