Dave Holmquist
Dave Holmquist (born May 1, 1951) is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at Biola University in La Mirada, California. Career Holmquist spent his playing career at Cypress College and Biola University, where he played from 1972 to 1974. He began his coaching career at Fresno Pacific University in 1975–76. During his three-year stint, Holmquist recorded 36 wins and 43 losses. He moved to Biola in 1978, where Holmquist served as Co-Head Coach alongside Howard Lyon. In 1982, they led Biola to the NAIA National Championship Game and to the NCCAA National Championship in 1984. Following Lyon's resignation in 1988, Holmquist became the lone coach. Holmquist did not coach the Biola team in the 1989-90 season to focus on his duties as athletic director, before carrying out the two roles until the end of the 2015-16 school year, when he retired from his 27-year stint as athletic director. The 72nd Buffalo Funds - NAIA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament was held from March 18 to 24 at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri. The 72nd annual NAIA basketball tournament featured 32 teams playing in a single-elimination format. The Heart of America Athletic Conference was the host conference for the tournament. This was the Heart of America Athletic Conference's first year as a Division I conference. The tournament got off to a surprising start, as five higher seeded teams lost on the opening day, including top-seeded Rogers State, who lost to William Jewell, who had only qualified for the tournament by receiving the Heart of America Athletic Conference's host bid into the field. This was the first NAIA tournament back in Kansas City since 1993. The NAIA headquarters also relocated to Olathe, Kansas this year.
