Dave Burgess (politician)
David K. Burgess (born c. 1959) is a politician in Brandon, Manitoba, Canada, who was mayor of the city from 2002 to 2010. His father, Ken Burgess, was Mayor of Brandon from 1979 to 1989. Early life and career Burgess was born as raised in Brandon. He was first elected to the Brandon City Council in 1998, easily defeating two other candidates in the city's sixth ward. Brandon () is the second-largest city in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It is located in the southwestern corner of the province on the banks of the Assiniboine River, approximately west of the provincial capital, Winnipeg, and east of the Saskatchewan border. 2010 Manitoba Municipal Elections
The Canadian province of Manitoba held municipal elections on October 27, 2010. Election day was on July 23, 2010 for several beach resorts including Winnipeg Beach, Dunnottar and Victoria Beach. Mayors, councillors, and school board trustees were elected. Bill 35, The Municipal Conflict of Interest and Campaign Financing Act, was passed on October 8, 2009. This created new rules for campaigns and financing. It extended campaign rules previously in force in Winnipeg to the rest of the province. It requires candidates to provide financial statements of contributions and expenses. It also bans corporate and union donations, and limits donations to Manitoba residents. Municipalities had the option to set their own bylaw regarding maximum expenses, and municipal rebate programs. Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry
Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI, generally referred to as the Patricia's) is one of the three Regular Force infantry regiments of the Canadian Army of the Canadian Armed Forces. Formed in 1914, it is named for Princess Patricia of Connaught, daughter of the then-Governor General of Canada. The regiment is composed of three battalions, for a total of 2,000 soldiers. The PPCLI is the main lodger unit of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Edmonton in Alberta and CFB Shilo in Manitoba, and attached to 3rd Canadian Division; as such, it serves as the "local" regular infantry regiment for much of Western Canada. An urban Indian reserve (french: réserve indienne urbaine) is land that the Government of Canada has designated as a First Nations reserve that is situated within an urban area. Such lands allow for aboriginal commercial ventures which enjoy the tax exemptions offered to traditional reserves. They may be located within either a municipality or, in the case of Saskatchewan, a Northern Administration District. An urban reserve may result from either encroachment of a municipal area into existing reserve lands, or from the designation of land in an existing urban territory.
