Dave Albright
David J. Albright (January 25, 1960 – January 26, 2023) was an American gridiron football linebacker who played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League. He played high school football for Marina High School and college football at Chabot College. He later transferred to San Jose State University and played for the Spartans. From 1986 to 1991, Albright recorded 377 tackles and 12 sacks with the Roughriders over 76 games. Professional career In 1985, Albright played with the Memphis Showboats of the United States Football League (USFL) and helped them reach the semifinals. When the USFL folded the following year, the Saskatchewan Roughriders signed Albright. He played in eight regular season games as a rookie in the CFL, but he made no tackles. In 1987, Albright broke out with 118 tackles and two sacks, setting the record for most defensive tackles in a season. The 1991 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 77th season in the club's 81st year of existence. The team finished in 4th place in the Canadian Football League's West Division with a 6–12 record. The Roughriders began the season with a 1–6 record and subsequently fired head coach John Gregory and replaced him with Don Matthews who finished the season with a 5–6 record. The stronger end to the season was not enough as the team failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 1987. The 1990 Saskatchewan Roughriders season was the 76th season in the club's 80th year of existence. Following their win in the 1989 Grey Cup, the team opened this season as defending Grey Cup champions for the first time since 1967. The team finished in 3rd place in the Canadian Football League's West Division with a 9–9 record for the second consecutive season. 1989 Saskatchewan Roughriders Season
The 1989 Saskatchewan Roughriders was the club's eightieth year of operation, seventy-fifth season of play, and its thirty-second season in the Canadian Football League. The team finished in 3rd place in the CFL West Division with a 9–9 record. The Roughriders defeated the Calgary Stampeders in the West Semi-Final and then defeated the heavily-favoured Edmonton Eskimos who had finished with a CFL-record 16 regular season wins. Due to their West Final win, the Roughriders qualified for their first Grey Cup game since the club's loss in the 1976 championship game. In the 77th Grey Cup, the team faced the 12–6 Hamilton Tiger-Cats who had already defeated the Roughriders in both regular season matches. However, the Roughriders kept it a close game and ultimately won with a Dave Ridgway field goal to win the championship.
