Dave (દવે; ) is a Gujarati Brahmin surname. This surname is common amongst the Audichya Brahmins hailing from the Indian state of Gujarat. Many Audichya Brahmins assumed this surname to indicate their expertise and mastery over two Vedas. This surname also denotes the Brahmin caste. Harindra J Dave (19 September 1930 – 29 March 1995) was a Gujarati poet, journalist, playwright and novelist of the post-independence Gujarati literature. Life He was born on 19 September 1930 in Khambhra village in Kachchh District, Gujarat, India (then Cutch State). He was educated at the Samaldas College, Bhavnagar and later University of Bombay. Career He authored more than fifty works, including poems, essays, drama and fiction. Raksha Dave (born 22 August 1977) is an archaeologist and TV presenter, and is the current President of the Council for British Archaeology. Early life and education Dave graduated with a degree in Archaeology from the Institute of Archaeology in London in 1999. Ranchhodbhai Dave
Ranchhodbhai Udayaram Dave (9 August 1837 – 9 April 1923) was a Gujarati playwright, producer and translator. He is considered the father of modern Gujarati theatre and plays in Gujarati literature. Biography He was born on 9 August 1837 in a Brahmin family in Mahudha near Nadiad (now in Gujarat, India). He completed his primary education in Mahudha and moved to Nadiad in 1852 to study in English. He joined Law Class in Ahmedabad in 1857. He initially worked in Collector Office in Ahmedabad and later joined M/s Lawrence Company in Bombay in 1863 (now Mumbai) as a representative of Bahechardas Ambaidas, a businessman from Ahmedabad. Narmadashankar Dave
Narmadashankar Lalshankar Dave () (24 August 1833 – 26 February 1886), popularly known as Narmad, was an Indian Gujarati-language poet, playwright, essayist, orator, lexicographer and reformer under the British Raj. He is considered to be the founder of modern Gujarati literature. After studying in Bombay, he stopped serving as a teacher to live by writing. During his prolific career, he introduced many literary forms in Gujarati. He faced economic struggles but proved himself as a dedicated reformer, speaking loudly against religious and social orthodoxy. Mauli Dave (born 3 June 1987) is an Indian singer, actress, dancer, and television host. She was a contestant on Zee TV's Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge 2007. Makarand Dave, also referred as Sai Makarand Dave, was a Gujarati poet and author from Gujarat, India. Biography Dave was born in Gondal (now in Rajkot district, Gujarat) on 13 November 1922 to Vajeshankar Dave. After completing his school education in Gondal, he joined the Dharamsinhji College, Rajkot in 1940. He left studies in 1942 to participate in the Quit India movement of the Indian independence movement. In early life, he came in a contact with his spiritual teacher, Nathalal Joshi. He married an author Kundanika Kapadia in 1968. He moved to Mumbai later. Swami Anand (1887 – 25 January 1976) was a monk, a Gandhian activist and a Gujarati writer from India.
