Achilles Daunt
Achilles Daunt (1832–1878) was a noted Irish people, Irish preacher and homilist, and Church of Ireland Dean of Cork. Early life and education Achilles Daunt descended from a cadet branch of the Daunt family of Owlpen, Gloucestershire, settled since 1575 at Tracton Abbey, County Cork. He was the eldest son of Achilles Daunt who died 28 August 1871, by Mary, third daughter of John Isaac Heard, Member of Parliament for Kinsale (UK Parliament constituency), Kinsale. He was born at Rincurran, near Kinsale, on 23 August 1832. He was educated at Kinsale endowed school, and at the age of sixteen entered Trinity College Dublin, where he gained a classical scholarship, and was awarded the vice-chancellor's prize for English language, English poetry in 1851. At the degree examination in 1853 he came out second senior moderator and gold medallist in classics. Achilles James Daunt (born 18 October 1963) is a British businessman. He is the founder of the Daunt Books chain, and since May 2011 has been managing director of the bookshop chain Waterstones. Since August 2019, Daunt has also been CEO of Barnes & Noble, the American bookstore chain. He is known as "the man who saved Waterstones". Colonel John Charles Campbell Daunt VC (8 November 1832 – 15 April 1886) was a recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Michael Daunt
Neill Michael Daunt OBE (23 October 1909 – 26 July 1991) was a British test pilot; the first person to fly the Gloster Meteor in March 1943, Britain's first production jet aircraft. He was the second person to fly the Gloster E.28/39 "Pioneer" (Britain's first jet aircraft) in November 1942. He had many severe accidents that he was lucky to survive, including one for which he had no recollection. Early life Michael Daunt was born in Sussex. His father was a General Practitioner (GP). Seton Daunt is an English guitar player and songwriter, best known as lead guitarist for the British rock band Fiction Plane. Guitarist At 19 years old, Daunt met Dan Brown, who introduced him to Santa's Boyfriend. The band was playing the club circuit in London, and he was invited to join them for a few songs. He joined the band several years later. In 1998, Daunt was a member of the London-based indie band Bok, which featured Matt Crutchlow (guitar, vocals), Andrew Holdsworth (bass, keyboards), and Richard Young (drums). The band released an EP called "Alarm in the Beehive", which received praise from BBC Radio jockey Steve Lamacq, as well as some positive reviews. Timothy Daunt
Sir Timothy Lewis Achilles Daunt (born 11 October 1935) is a retired diplomat and former Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. Early life Educated at Sherborne School and St Catharine's College, Cambridge, Career Daunt was Commissioned officer, commissioned into the Royal Armoured Corps in 1955 and posted to the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars. After completing national service, he joined the diplomatic service and, after a series of postings, became Permanent Representative to NATO in Brussels in 1982 and then List of Ambassadors of the United Kingdom to Turkey, British Ambassador to Turkey from 1986 to his retirement in 1992. In retirement he became Lieutenant Governor of the Isle of Man. He later became chairman of the Ottoman Fund, a business established to provide mortgages for properties in Turkey.
