Daubhill Railway Station
Daubhill railway station was a station on the original route of the Bolton and Leigh Railway. It served the Daubhill area of south west Bolton. It was open from 1831 until its replacement in 1885 by a later station. History The Bolton and Leigh Railway (B&LR) opened for goods traffic in 1828, followed by passenger services in 1831. The railway was built as a single track line and the route included two inclines which were worked using ropes hauled by stationary engines, locomotive haulage being used on the flatter sections of the line. One of these inclines was situated at Daubhill with the line climbing up out of Bolton. This incline was operated by a stationary steam engine which hauled the trains up the incline, in the downhill direction trains worked by gravity. The station at ''Daubhill'' opened on 11 June 1831. Bolton, Greater Manchester
Bolton (, locally ) is a large town in Greater Manchester in North West England, formerly a part of Lancashire. A former mill town, Bolton has been a production centre for textiles since Flemish weavers settled in the area in the 14th century, introducing a wool and cotton-weaving tradition. The urbanisation and development of the town largely coincided with the introduction of textile manufacture during the Industrial Revolution. Bolton was a 19th-century boomtown and, at its zenith in 1929, its 216 cotton mills and 26 bleaching and dyeing works made it one of the largest and most productive centres of cotton spinning in the world. Bolton And Leigh Railway
The Bolton and Leigh Railway (B&LR) was the first public railway in Lancashire, it opened for goods on 1 August 1828 preceding the Liverpool and Manchester Railway (L&MR) by two years. Passengers were carried from 1831. The railway operated independently until 1845 when it became part of the Grand Junction Railway. This list of mills in Bolton lists textile factories which existed at one time or another in the Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. From the Industrial Revolution until the 20th century, Bolton was a major centre of textile manufacture, particularly cotton spinning. During this period, Bolton was dominated by large rectangular brick-built factories, many of which still remain today as warehouses or converted for residential or retail use.
