Dateline (Australian TV Program)
''Dateline'' is an Australian television international current affairs program broadcast on SBS. Since its debut at on Friday 19 October 1984, it has focused largely on international events, often in developing or warring nations. In 2015 the program changed its format going from one-hour episodes featuring multiple stories, to half-hour single subject episodes. The series focuses on under-reported stories from around the globe, with a documentary style. It is broadcast on Tuesdays at 9.30pm following Insight, and all episodes are available to view on SBS On Demand. It remains the longest-running international current affairs program in Australia. Current Affairs (news Format)
Current affairs is a genre of broadcast journalism in which major news stories are discussed at length in a timely manner. This differs from regular news broadcasts that place emphasis on news reports presented for simple presentation as soon as possible, often with a minimum of analysis. It is also different from the news magazine show format in that the events are discussed immediately. The UK's BBC programmes such as '' This World'', '' Panorama'', ''Real Story'', ''BBC Scotland Investigates'', ''Spotlight'', '' Week In Week Out'', and '' Inside Out'' fit the definition. In Canada, CBC Radio produces a number of current affairs show both nationally such as '' The Current'' and ''As it Happens'' as well as regionally with morning current affairs shows such as ''Information Morning'', a focus the radio network developed in the 1970s as a way to recapture audience from television. Mark Davis (journalist)
Mark Davis is an Australian investigative journalist and lawyer, best known for his work on ''Dateline'' for SBS TV, where he is currently a co-presenter and video journalist. Davis was educated at Warrandyte Primary School and then St Kevin's College in Melbourne. Career ABC TV Prior to commencing at SBS, Davis' background was as an investigative journalist with the ABC TV ''Foreign Correspondent'' and ''Four Corners'' programs. Working on ''Foreign Correspondent'' in North Korea, Davis was awarded the 1998 Walkley Award for Excellence in Journalism for his report on ''North Korea Famine'' and in the same year was awarded the New York Festivals award for coverage of an ongoing news story, ''The Lion of the Panshi''. Whilst at ''Four Corners'', Davis won the 1998 Walkley Award for Best International Report with Peter McEvoy for ''The Survivor's Story'' and the 1999 Walkley Award for Best TV Current Affairs Report, called ''Blood on the Cross''.
