Daráine Mulvihill
Daráine Mulvihill ( ga, Daráine Ní Mhaolmhichil) (born c. 1983) is an Irish television personality. Biography Daráine Mulvihill is the daughter of Liam Mulvihill, the former director general of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). She is from Ashbourne, County Meath, and has two younger brothers. A survivor of meningitis, she lost both her legs due to the illness when she was 16. She was so ill she was not expected to live and was given last rites. She has been an advocate for immunization. Mulvihill graduated in Communications Studies at Dublin City University. She was voted a (Irish) People of the Year Award in 2001 because of her personal story and attitude. Daráine was appointed to the Irish Council of State by Mary McAleese for her second term as President of Ireland, starting in 2004. Liam Mulvihill
Liam Mulvihill (born 25 May 1946) is an Irish retired Gaelic games administrator. He served as Director-General of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 1979 until 2008. Born in Keenagh, County Longford, Mulvihill was the eldest of ten children. He was educated at St. Mel's College, where he won a Hogan Cup medal in 1963, and later qualified as a primary school teacher from St. Patrick's College in Dublin. Mulvihill moved to Nenagh, County Tipperary in 1974 when he was appointed as a primary schools inspector. Mulvihill played Gaelic football for Kenagh and at all grades for the Longford county team before becoming involved in the administration of the game. He served as secretary of the Kenagh minors, a position which led to his representing the club on the Longford Minor Board. Mulvihill was subsequently appointed to the Longford County Board. The ''Longford Leader'' is a weekly newspaper, which has published in Longford, Ireland since 1897. History The Longford Leader was founded, as ''The Longford Leader and Roscommon, Leitrim and Westmeath News'', as a local newspaper with a Nationalist perspective, in 1897, by local activist and M.P., J. P. Farrell, and fellow M.P., Jasper Tully; it was one of a range of Nationalist projects on which they partnered. Farrell was the official proprietor and first editor.
