Dartford, Washington
Dartford is an unincorporated community in Spokane County, in the U.S. state of Washington. It is a small community located along the shore of Dartford Creek and the Little Spokane River north of Spokane. History A post office called Dartford was established in 1898, and remained in operation until 1906. Herbert Dart, the postmaster, gave the community its name. Brothers Herb and Lafayette Dart came to Spokane from Walla Walla in 1879 and built a mill at the present site of Dartford in 1883. The mill was operational until 1922 and ultimately demolished in 1943. All that remains is a portion of the foundation and a wall. Youth organization Camp Fire operates the 51-acre Camp Dart-Lo in Dartford that includes the site of the former mill. Dartford Cemetery on the western edge of the old town was established in 1896 after the death of a pioneer. As of 2015, 144 people have been buried in the cemetery. Mead is an unincorporated suburb and census-designated place north of Spokane, Washington, Spokane in Spokane County, Washington, Spokane County, Washington (state), Washington, United States. Named for Civil War general George Meade, this rural area is tracked by the United States Census Bureau. As of 2010, the population of Mead was 7,275. In 1900 Mead was the second stop on the Spokane Falls & Northern Railway. Little Spokane River
The Little Spokane River is a major tributary of the Spokane River, approximately long, in eastern Washington in the United States. It drains a rural area of forested foothills and a farming valley north of the city of Spokane along the Idaho–Washington border. It has two branches, one starting west of Newport and the other stemming from Eloika lake farther west. The two branches come together between the communities of Elk upstream and Milan downstream. The supply from Eloika is quite warm in the summer and has different fish habitat than the colder branch from Newport. The best trout fishing is where the two branches come together, but is on privately owned land. It is also a privately owned water body, which is rare. Expo '74, officially known as the International Exposition on the Environment, Spokane 1974, was a world's fair held May 4, 1974, to November 3, 1974 in Spokane, Washington in the northwest United States. It was the first environmentally themed world's fair and attended by roughly 5.6 million people. Salvatore "Frank" Capone (, ; July 16, 1895 – April 1, 1924) was an Italian-American mobster who participated in the attempted takeover of Cicero, Illinois by the Chicago Outfit. He worked in the businesses with his brothers Al Capone and Ralph Capone.
