Darshan Singh Sur (violinist)
Darshan Singh Sur is a North Indian classical violinist whose roots are in the Senia Gharana. Darshan has done several captivating solos in almost every major city of India and abroad. He has mastered the art of jugalbandi with various instruments like guitar, sitar, flute, sarangi, and Hawaiian guitar. His primary quality is to maintain the structure of a raga while elaborating it with absolute imagination. His sense of aesthetics can be witnessed when he share stages with many renowned musicians and bands like Jalebee Cartel, Mrigya, Samved, world-famous piano player Brian Salas, Advaita, Shibani Kashyap, Valentine, Mame Khan, Shipley Bobby Cash, Slovenian guitar player Igor Bezget, and Leslie Luis. Joi Srivastava
Pt Joi Srivastava was a well-known North Indian violinist of the Senia Gharana. Early life and training Joi Srivastava was born in Allahabad on 1 January 1930. He learned Hindustani classical violin from Gagan Chandra Chatterjee, a violinist who is credited with introducing the gat-style of violin playing in North India. After his teacher died, Joi Srivastava learnt from the celebrated Ustad Alauddin Khan as well for a few years. Career He was a prodigy who became a master of the instrument even before he turned 20. He started teaching at the University of Allahabad and also at Kala Bharati Allahabad. Around 1957 he moved to Delhi and joined the All India Radio where he was a regular artiste till his retirement in 1987. After that he taught violin at the Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Delhi till 1994. Sharat Chandra Srivastava
Sharat Chandra Srivastava is a North Indian classical violinist and music composer. He represents the Senia gharana. Early life and training Srivastava was born in New Delhi on 17 October 1971. He started learning violin at the age of 7 from his grandfather, the renowned North Indian violinist Pt Joi Srivastava. Career He has been performing Hindustani classical music for over 25 years. He was part of India's premier rock band Parikrama for 12 years. He left Parikrama in 1999 and started the Delhi-based fusion band called Mrigya. He is also a member of the world music quartet India Alba. He is a recipient of the National Scholarship from the Ministry of Human Resources and Development, Government of India. Mrigya is an Indian World fusion music band from New Delhi that was formed in 1999. It music is a fusion of Blues, Folk, Funk, Latin, Rock and Jazz along with Indian classical music. Over the years the band has played at national and international music festivals. History The band was initially formed as a jam band project for a music club called "Friends of Music" and was originally christened "Mrigaya" (Sanskrit for "hunt") by Indraneel Hariharan. A misprint in the promotion flyer named the newly formed outfit as "Mrigya". The band decided to retain this new name born out of that amusing incident. Advaita (band)
Advaita are an Indian fusion band based in New Delhi, formed in 2004. History In March 2009, Advaita released their first album with EMI titled ''Grounded in Space''. In 2011, Advaita was featured on the Indian leg of the MTV shows '' Coke Studio'' and '' MTV Unplugged''. The band released their second album ''The Silent Sea'' in February 2012 with EMI Records. They have also performed in the hills. A festival named Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival, in which they performed for children suffering from various diseases from the age of 15 months till 16 years.
