Darsgah-Jihad-O-Shahadat
Darsgah-Jihad-O-Shahadat (literally The Centre for Jihad and Martyrdom) is an Islamist group based in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad, with branches in the state of Kerala. The group claims to have trained about 50,000 people in self-defence techniques at its training camps in Hazrat Ujale Shah Idgah grounds at Saidabad and Purani Haveli. The training camps were closed in 2013 after the death of Shaik Mahboob Ali and restarted in 2017. Some of the former members of this group are accused of joining al-Qaeda and its affiliates and of involvement in multiple terror attacks across India. History Founded on 4 December 1983 by Shaikh Mahboob Ali (d. 2011), the incumbent president of the group is Mohammed Abdul Majid. Students Islamic Movement Of India
The Students' Islamic Movement of India (abbreviated SIMI) is a banned terrorist organisation that was formed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh in April 1977. The stated mission of SIMI is the ‘liberation of India’ by converting it to an Islamic land. The SIMI, an organisation of extremists has declared Jihad against India, the aim of which is to establish Dar-ul-Islam (land of Islam) by either forcefully converting everyone to Islam or by violence. The Indian government describes it as a terrorist organisation, and banned it in 2001, shortly after the 9/11 attacks. The ban was lifted in August 2008 by a special tribunal, but was reinstated by K.G. Balakrishnan, then Chief Justice, on 6 August 2008 on national security grounds. Vikar Ahmed
Vikar Ahmed (died 7 April 2015) also known as Vikaruddin was an activist of the Darsgah-Jihad-O-Shahadat. He is a suspect in the Mecca Masjid bombing. He was absconding from Andhra Pradesh police but was caught in July 2010. He was accused of being involved in the deadly attacks on Hyderabad police in 2009 and 2010. In the 2009 incident, a policeman was killed and another injured when assailants opened fire at Falaknuma area of Hyderabad, while in 2010 a policeman was killed and three others were reported injured when two people, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on a police picket at Shalibanda in the Old City area of Hyderabad. 2005 Begumpet Suicide Bombing
The 2005 Begumpet suicide bombing resulted in the deaths of two persons at the Hyderabad City Police Commissioner's Task Force office at Begumpet. On 12 October 2005, at around 7.30 PM IST, a suicide bomber detonated explosives outside the Task Force office killing himself and 45-year-old home guard A. Satyanarayana. The suicide bomber was reported to be a Bangladeshi national Dalin alias Mohtasim Billal, member of Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami (HuJI), a banned Islamic terror group. Ghulam Yazdani and Shahed Bilal key accused in the bombing died on 8 March 2006 and 30 August 2007 respectively. The bombing was reported to be carried out to avenge the killing of Mujahid Salim, son of SIMI patron Maulana Abdul Aleem Islahi, by Gujarat police in 2004. Baddam Bal Reddy
Baddam Bal Reddy was a Bharatiya Janata Party activist from Telangana and three time MLA from Karwan (Assembly constituency) of Telangana Legislative Assembly. He won the seat in 1985, 1989 and 1994 assembly elections. In 2004 he was the target of an assassination attempt by members of a group trained by the ISI. Mecca Masjid Bombing
The Mecca Masjid blast occurred on 18 May 2007 inside the Mecca Masjid, (or "Makkah Masjid") a mosque located in the old city area of Hyderabad, capital of the Indian state of Telangana located very close to Charminar. The blast was caused by a cellphone-triggered pipe bomb placed near the Wuzukhana, a spot where ablutions are performed. Two more live IEDs were found and defused by the police. Sixteen people were reported dead in the immediate aftermath, of whom five were killed by the police firing after the incident while trying to quell the mob. On 16 April 2018, the NIA Court acquitted all 11 who were accused in the blasts, citing lack of evidence. 2007 Samjhauta Express Bombings
The 2007 Samjhauta Express bombing was a terrorist attack that occurred around midnight on 18 February 2007 on the Samjhauta Express, a twice-weekly train service connecting Delhi, India, and Lahore, Pakistan. Bombs were set off in two carriages, both filled with passengers, just after the train passed Diwana near the Indian city of Panipat, north of New Delhi. 70 people were killed in the ensuing fire and dozens more were injured. Of the 70 fatalities, most were Pakistani civilians. The victims also included some Indian civilians and three railway policemen. Investigators subsequently found evidence of suitcases with explosives and flammable material, including three undetonated bombs. Ishrat Jahan Case
The Ishrat Jahan case is an ongoing case where officers of the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch and members of the Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) of Ahmedabad are accused of fatally shooting four people unlawfully on 15 June 2004 in an " encounter killing". Several officials associated with the case, including those from Home Ministry and Intelligence Bureau, later accused the then UPA government of changing an affidavit for political gains. The Supreme Court decided in 2016 to hear a plea for quashing action against Gujarat police.
