Darryl Cox (footballer)
Darryl Cox (born 26 January 1961) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy, Melbourne and the Brisbane Bears in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1980s. Cox, a defender, was never able to command regular selection and did not play more than eight games (mainly due to injury) in any one season. He started out at Fitzroy, playing 16 games in four years and missing the entire 1981 season. At Melbourne, his second club, he played 13 games in three seasons. His finished his career in Brisbane, where he was a member of the Bears initial VFL squad and played his only game in round two against Geelong. Fitzroy Football Club
The Fitzroy Football Club is an Australian rules football club currently competing in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). Formed in 1883 to represent the inner-Melbourne municipality of Fitzroy, the club was a member of the Victorian Football Association (VFA), before becoming a foundation member of the breakaway Victorian Football League (VFL/AFL) in 1897. Fitzroy won a total of eight VFL premierships, of which seven (1898, 1899, 1904, 1905, 1913, 1916 and 1922) were won whilst they were nicknamed the Maroons and one (1944) as the Gorillas. The decision of the club to change its nickname to the Lions in 1957 coincided with what history now records as the beginning of decades of poor on-field performance and financial losses that eventually resulted in the club being placed into administration, ultimately leaving the AFL at the end of the 1996 season. Brisbane Bears
The Brisbane Football Club, nicknamed the Bears, was a professional Australian rules football club based in Queensland on the Gold Coast (relocated to Brisbane in 1993). The club participated in the Victorian/Australian Football League (VFL/AFL) between 1987 and 1996, and entered the league as the first of two non-Victorian expansion teams. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Nikolas Cox
Nikolas Cox (born 15 January 2002) is an Australian rules footballer who plays for the Essendon Bombers in the Australian Football League (AFL). He was recruited by Essendon with the 8th draft pick in the 2020 AFL draft. He is the son of former VFL player Darryl Cox. Early football Cox played football for the Montmorency Football Club in the Northern Football Netball League. He also played for his school Ivanhoe Grammar in the AGSV school competition. He began playing for the Northern Knights in 2019, and had his 2020 season cancelled due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
