Darren Walsh (director)
Darren Walsh is a British director, writer, animator and voice artist. He uses stop-frame animation, live-action, and CG in his work. He lives in London and is represented by production company Passion Pictures, having worked previously independently and for Aardman Animations. Biography Walsh trained in animation at West Surrey College of Art and Design (now the University for the Creative Arts), where his graduation film "Oozat" (1993), using pixelation and mask animation, was broadcast on Channel 4 and won awards at the Cork International Film Festival and the Hiroshima Animation Festival. He devised, directed, and voiced the four series of ''Angry Kid'' animated short films, which were commissioned by the BBC, produced at Aardman Animations, and won awards including Best Animated Short at the World Comedy Short Film Festival, Toronto in February 2003. Computer-generated imagery (CGI) is the use of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, video games, simulators, and visual effects in films, television programs, shorts, commercials, and videos. The images may be static (still images) or dynamic (moving images), in which case CGI is also called ''computer animation''. ''Miracles of Evolution'' is a BBC film trailer featuring flying penguins made in 2008 as an April Fools' Day hoax. The film was advertised as compelling evidence for Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. It was largely set on King George Island, from mainland Antarctica. ''The Daily Telegraph'' wrote that the film was "an instant classic. It is accomplished work of this kind that guarantees the BBC its unique status." The BBC website still claims that it may attempt to film the flying penguins again because the original film did not explain how such small birds, that are not used to flying, could survive long migrations over vast, stormy oceans. The British Arrows (formerly the British Television Advertising Awards (BTAA)) is an advertising awards body in London, which honours the best moving image advertising in the UK. Founded in 1976, the British Arrows awards advertising agencies and production companies across a number of categories.
