Darren Smith (footballer, Born 1986)
Darren Smith (born 6 December 1986) is a Scottish footballer who plays for East of Scotland League side Dunbar United F.C. . Smith, who began his career with Hibernian, signed for Airdrie United in 2007. He was part of the Airdrie side who won the Scottish Challenge Cup in 2008. Smith was dropped by manager Kenny Black soon afterwards, but was recalled when it was announced that Steven McDougall and Joe Cardle had signed pre-contract agreements with Dunfermline. Smith was released by Airdrie in 2010, and then spent a few months out of the game. He signed for Albion Rovers on a short-term deal in February 2011. In July 2011, Smith signed for Berwick Rangers. After leaving Berwick at the end of the 2011–12 season, Smith joined Scottish Junior side Kelty Hearts, then a year later signed for fellow junior club Ballingry Rovers. Bonnyrigg ( sco, Bonnyrigg) is a town in Midlothian, Scotland, eight miles (13 kilometres) southeast of Edinburgh city centre. The town had a population of 14,663 in the 2001 census which rose to 15,677 in the 2011 census, both figures based on the 2010 definition of the locality which, as well as Bonnyrigg and the adjacent settlement of Lasswade, includes Polton village, Poltonhall housing estate and modern development at Hopefield. The 2008–09 Scottish Challenge Cup, known as the ALBA Challenge Cup due to sponsorship reasons with MG Alba, was the 18th season of the competition, competed for by all 30 members of the Scottish Football League. The defending champions were St Johnstone, who defeated Dunfermline Athletic by 3–2 in the 2007 final. The competition was won by Airdrie United who defeated Ross County 3–2 on penalties following a 2–2 draw after extra time, the winning penalty was scored by Marc Smyth. Kelty Hearts
Kelty Hearts Football Club is a football club based in the village of Kelty in Fife, Scotland. Formed in 1975 and nicknamed ''the Hearts'', ''the Maroon Machine'' and ''the Jambos'', they play their home games at New Central Park. Their home colours are maroon shirts, white shorts and maroon socks, while their away colours are typically all blue. Kelty Hearts compete in Scottish League One, having been promoted from Scottish League Two as champions in 2022. The club were previously members of the Scottish Junior Football Association, playing in the Fife League followed by the East Region Superleague. In professional association football, a free transfer, also known as a Bosman transfer, involves a professional association football club releasing a player when the player's contract has expired or made available just before the end of the contract. The player can then go on to sign for any club offering a contract to them. How it works The club acquiring the player does not have to pay any compensation for their release due to having nothing left to pay on their contract, hence, the term free transfer.
