Darren Bewick
Darren Bewick (born 21 August 1967) is a former Australian rules footballer who won two premierships with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Bewick's game breaking pace & goal sense inside the attacking 50 was legendary amongst Bomber fans. After debuting in 1988, Bewick played in all three of Essendon's finals in 1989. In 1990, Bewick played in Essendon's losing Grand Final team against Collingwood. In the Preliminary Final of 1993, Bewick was instrumental in Essendon's comeback victory (trailing the Adelaide Crows by 42 points at half-time) to earn a place in the 1993 AFL Grand Final. Bewick kicked a game high 6 goals (equal with that of Adelaide full forward Tony Modra), kicking his 5th & 6th goals in the final term to level the scores, with Gary O'Donnell kicking truly to put Essendon in front. The 1991 AFL season was the 95th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), which was known previously as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 22 March until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top six clubs, an increase from the top five clubs which had contested the finals from 1972-1990. The season saw expansion of the league to fifteen clubs, with the admission of the newly established Adelaide Crows, based in Adelaide, South Australia. The 1997 AFL season was the 101st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 27 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Before the season, the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) was admitted to the league, increasing the South Australian membership to two clubs. Foundation club Fitzroy, which had gone into administration in 1996, merged with the Brisbane Bears to form a new Queensland-based club known as the Brisbane Lions. The Footscray Football Club changed its name to the Western Bulldogs. With these changes, the league's size remained at sixteen clubs.
