Darrell Shropshire (born March 18, 1983) is an American former American football, football player who was a defensive lineman. He was selected in the seventh round (241st overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. He played college football at the South Carolina Gamecocks football, University of South Carolina. Early life Shropshire attended Andrew Jackson High School (South Carolina), Andrew Jackson High School, where he played defensive end, running back and tight end. He also played Center (basketball), center on the basketball team. College career Shropshire attended Coffeyville Community College. He was named First-team Junior College All-America and rated the #7 prospect in the ''SuperPrep'' JUCO Top 100. He was named the 2002 Defensive MVP of the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Defensive Tackle
A defensive tackle (DT) is a position in American football that will typically line up on the line of scrimmage, opposite one of the offensive guards, however he may also line up opposite one of the tackles. Defensive tackles are typically the largest and strongest of the defensive players. Depending on a team's individual defensive scheme, a defensive tackle may be called upon to fill several different roles. These roles may include merely holding the point of attack by refusing to be moved, or penetrating a certain gap between offensive linemen to break up a play in the opponent's backfield. If a defensive tackle reads a pass play, his primary responsibility is to pursue the quarterback, or simply knock the pass down at the line if it is within arm's reach.
