Darranlas
Darranlas is a large village in Mountain Ash, Rhondda Cynon Taf in South Wales. History The houses in the area are around 100–130 years old. Before the houses were built the area of Darranlas was Glyngwyn Farm. Darrenlas primary school was built in 1907 and is located in Kingcraft Street, the school is a feeder to Mountain Ash Comprehensive School. There was another primary school in the area known as Cynon Infants but it has now closed. The local public house in the area is the Napiers arms, named after General Charles James Napier. The pub is shaped like a coffin and the reason is believed that it was once owned by an undertaker. It is also believed that the street behind the pub is called Dover Street because a number of people came to the area in the 1800s from Dover to build the streets. There are also other streets that are named after the Bruce family which is the family of Lord Aberdare such as Eva Street, Knight Street, Pamela Street, Pryce Street and Clarence Street ... Mountain Ash ( cy, Aberpennar) is a town and former community in the Cynon Valley, within the County Borough of Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales, with a population of 11,230 at the 2011 Census, estimated in 2019 at 11,339. It includes the districts and villages of Cefnpennar, Cwmpennar, Caegarw, Darranlas, Fernhill, Glenboi and Newtown, all within the historic county boundaries of Glamorgan. General Sir Charles James Napier, (; 10 August 178229 August 1853) was an officer and veteran of the British Army's Peninsular and 1812 campaigns, and later a Major General of the Bombay Army, during which period he led the military conquest of Sindh, before serving as the Governor of Sindh, and Commander-in-Chief in India. Lord Aberdare
Baron Aberdare, of Duffryn in the County of Glamorgan, is a title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom. It was created on 23 August 1873 for the Liberal politician Henry Bruce. He served as Home Secretary from 1868 to 1873. His grandson, the third Baron, was a soldier, cricketer and tennis player and a member of the International Olympic Committee. His son, the fourth Baron, held office in the Conservative administration of Edward Heath and was later a Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords. Mountain Ash RFC is a Welsh rugby union club from the town of Mountain Ash, in the Cynon Valley, South Wales. Mountain Ash RFC is a member of the Welsh Rugby Union and is a feeder club for the Cardiff Blues. Early history The team was founded in 1875 at a meeting in the Mountain Ash Inn, but their first game in earnest was not until 1891, against Swansea at the Washery Field. Some of their early fixtures were against Llanelli, Cardiff and Newport. Mountain Ash provided their first Wales international in 1892, when Frank Mills was selected for the Home Nations Championship, though at the time he had left Mountain Ash and was then representing Cardiff.
