Darling Range Sports College is an Independent Public Schools, Independent Public Education in Western Australia#Secondary schools, secondary school in Forrestfield, Western Australia, Forrestfield, a suburb east of Perth, Western Australia. Formerly known as Forrestfield Senior High School, the school was renamed in 2008 due to it becoming a specialist sports school. History The school opened in 1975 as Forrestfield Senior High School. In 2000, $300,000 was spent on making the school's pool indoors and heated. In 2001, Bianca Batten, a student at Forrestfield Senior High School, won the Beazley Medal for Vocational Education and Training (VET). This was the first time the Beazley Medal for VET had been awarded, having previously been awarded to just the top Tertiary Entrance Exam, TEE student. Forrestfield is a suburb of the City of Kalamunda in Western Australia. It lies 15 kilometres to the south-east of Perth at the base of the Darling Scarp and the southern border of Perth Airport. Alan Black (basketball)
Alan Black (born 1 May 1957) is an Australian former professional basketball player and coach. He is most notable for coaching both the Perth Wildcats and the Cairns Taipans in the Australian National Basketball League. Black has three children, sons Stephen (former NBL player) and Andrew, and daughter Marissa. Playing career Black started his NBL playing career in the league's inaugural year, 1979, playing for the Nunawading Spectres. In 1981, he was a member of the Nunawading side that lost to Launcestion Casino City in the Grand Final that season. After seven seasons with the Spectres, Black made the move west in 1986 to play for the Perth Wildcats. In 1987, Black was once again a member of a losing Grand Final side when the Wildcats were defeated by the Brisbane Bullets. The Perth Wildcats are an Australian professional basketball team based in Perth, Western Australia. The Wildcats compete in the National Basketball League (NBL) and play their home games at RAC Arena, known colloquially as "The Jungle". After three years of strong lobbying to the NBL, the creation of a national basketball team in Perth finally occurred in 1982. Aaron Black (born 25 December 1992) is an Australian rules footballer currently playing for the West Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). WAFL career Black made his league debut for West Perth in round 16 of the 2010 season and was a member of the 2013 premiership team. He made his state debut for Western Australia in 2013. In 2014, Black won the Sandover Medal for the best and fairest player in the WAFL with 47 votes. Sandover Medal
The Sandover Medal is an Australian rules football award, given annually since 1921 to the fairest and best player in the West Australian Football League. The award was donated by Alfred Sandover M.B.E., a prominent Perth hardware merchant and benefactor. Voting system After each match, the three field umpires (those umpires who control the flow of the game) confer and award a 3, 2 and 1 point vote to the players they regard as the best, second best, and third best in the match respectively. Voting wasn't always done this way. From 1985-2018, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 point votes were given, from 1930–1984, 3, 2 and 1 point votes were given, and prior to 1930 there was only one vote per game. Just like similar "fairest and best" awards, for example the Brownlow and Magarey Medals, if a player is suspended for a reportable offence throughout the season then they become ineligible to win the award.
