Darleen Bogart
Darleen Bogart is a Canadian Braille literacy advocate. She is a founding member of Canadian Braille Authority and served as its president. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2017. Early life and education Bogart was born in Churchbridge, Saskatchewan, the youngest of seven children. Career Bogart's mother-in-law was involved with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) and encouraged her to volunteer. She became a volunteer at the Women’s College Hospital beginning in the 1960s. Bogart joined the Braille Authority of North America (BANA) Planning Committee board from 1982 and 1988. Churchbridge, Saskatchewan
Churchbridge is a town in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada, located at the junction of the Yellowhead Highway (Highway 16), and Highway 80. Churchbridge is a part of the rural municipality of Churchbridge 211, which is located within Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Division No. 1 and census division Number 5. History Churchbridge began with the arrival of settlers from the Anglican Colonization Society, with director and missionary Reverend Robert Bridger. The village of Churchbridge was incorporated in 1903 with James Heasman as the overseer. He was solely responsible for the affairs of the village. There was no council, but M. Thorlakson and A.O. Berger, both hotel keepers, were trustees, which meant they made themselves responsible for the honesty and integrity of the overseer in his financial duties. CNIB Foundation
The CNIB Foundation (french: Fondation INCA) is a volunteer agency and charitable organization dedicated to assisting Canadians who are blind or living with vision loss, and to provide information about vision health for all Canadians. Founded in 1918 as the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (french: Institut national canadien pour les aveugles) to assist soldiers who had been blinded in the First World War, CNIB originally offered sheltered care and specialized employment to people with vision loss.
