Dark Matter (2015 TV Series)
''Dark Matter'' is a science fiction series started in 2015 that was developed by Prodigy Pictures in association with the Space channel and the Syfy channel. The concept was created by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie while they were working on the '' Stargate'' franchise, and was originally published as a comic book series in 2012. An order for 13 episodes was placed for the first season of the series, which premiered on June 12, 2015, on both Space and Syfy. On September 5, 2015, the series was renewed for a second season. ''Dark Matter'' was renewed for a third season in September 2016, which premiered on June 9, 2017. On September 1, 2017, Syfy canceled the series. Space Opera
Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare, with use of melodramatic, risk-taking space adventures, relationships, and chivalric romance. Set mainly or entirely in outer space, it features technological and social advancements (or lack thereof) in faster-than-light travel, futuristic weapons, and sophisticated technology, on a backdrop of galactic empires and interstellar wars with fictional aliens, often in fictional galaxies. The term has no relation to opera music, but is instead a play on the terms "soap opera", a melodramatic television series, and "horse opera", which was coined during the 1930s to indicate a clichéd and formulaic Western film. Space operas emerged in the 1930s and continue to be produced in literature, film, comics, television, video games and board games. David Hewlett
David Ian Hewlett (born 18 April 1968) is a British-born Canadian actor, writer, and director known for his role as Dr. Rodney McKay in the '' Stargate'' science-fiction franchise. He first gained fame for his roles as Grant Jansky in the Canadian TV series '' Traders'' (1996—2000) and as David Worth in the Canadian psychological horror film ''Cube'' (1997). He had earlier appeared in the horror film ''Pin'' (1988) and the science-fiction film '' Scanners II: The New Order'' (1991). "Episode One" is the first episode of the Space science fiction series ''Dark Matter''. The episode was written by series creators and executive producers Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, and directed by TJ Scott. The episode first aired in Canada on June 12, 2015. Plot A damaged spaceship drifts with its crew of six in stasis. As the ship's life support system gradually fails, the crew wake up one by one. The first, a man (Marc Bendavid), makes his way to the bridge but has no idea how to fix the situation. He is soon attacked by the second to awaken, a woman (Melissa O'Neil), because he is in her way; she uses a console to bring life support back to normal function. Starship
A starship, starcraft, or interstellar spacecraft is a theoretical spacecraft designed for interstellar travel, traveling between planetary systems. The term is mostly found in science fiction. Stasis (fiction)
A stasis or stasis field, in science fiction, is a confined area of space in which time has been stopped or the contents have been rendered motionless. Overview A stasis field is imagined to be a region in which a stasis process is in effect. Stasis fields in fictional settings often have several common characteristics. These include infinite or nearly infinite rigidity, making them "unbreakable objects" and a perfect or nearly-perfect reflective surface. Most science fiction plots rely on a physical device to establish this region. When the device is deactivated, the stasis field collapses, and the stasis effect ends. Time is often suspended in stasis fields. Such fields thus have the additional property of protecting non-living materials from deterioration.
