''Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader'' is a novel set in the non-canonical Star Wars expanded universe, ''Star Wars Legends'' continuity, written by James Luceno, that was published by Del Rey Books, Del Rey on November 22, 2005. ''Dark Lord'' takes place in the immediate aftermath of the events in ''Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith'', and focuses on Darth Vader and his rise to power in the newly inaugurated Galactic Empire (Star Wars), Galactic Empire. Plot ''Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader'' begins in the final hours of the Clone Wars (Star Wars), Clone Wars, just before the implementation of Great Jedi Purge, Order 66 as depicted in ''Revenge of the Sith''. James Luceno
James Luceno (born 1947) is a ''New York Times'' bestselling author, best known for his novels and reference books connected with the ''Star Wars'' franchise and the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and (with Brian Daley under the shared pseudonym Jack McKinney) novelisations of the ''Robotech'' animated television series. Luceno is also the author of several original novels along with film novelisations and other franchise tie-ins. He has also written for television cartoon series.
