Darjah Utama Temasek
The Darjah Utama Temasek ( en, Order of Temasek) is Singapore's second most prestigious national honour and was instituted in 1962. It is an Order conferred by the President of Singapore only to citizens of Singapore. It may be awarded to non-citizens only under special circumstances. As of 29 July 2019, the Order has three different grades: * the Order of Temasek (With High Distinction), * the Order of Temasek (With Distinction), and * the Order of Temasek. The rules of award state that no more than 12 people (other than people admitted in an honorary capacity) may be admitted to the Order of Temasek (With High Distinction) at any one time. As of August 2020, there are currently 8 people in the Order of Temasek (With High Distinction). There is no limit to the number of people admitted to the other two grades. Lim Kim San
Lim Kim San ( zh, c=林金山, p=Lín Jīnshān; 30 November 1916 – 20 July 2006) was a Singaporean politician who served as a Cabinet minister between 1965 and 1981. He was credited for leading a successful public housing programme in the country during the early 1960s, which eased the acute housing shortage problem at that time. Early life and education Born in 1916 in Singapore, Lim was the eldest of six children. He was educated at Oldham Hall School and Anglo-Chinese School before graduating from Raffles College in 1939 with a Diploma in Arts in economics. During the Japanese occupation, Lim was one of the many tortured on suspicion of being pro-communist and pro- British. A long time after the war, Lim said that those who survived the horror and the brutality of the Japanese occupation "will never forget them." Bintang Temasek
The Bintang Temasek ( en, Star of Temasek), Singapore's most prestigious national honour, which was instituted on 24 July 1970. The decoration is only awarded to members of the Singapore Armed Forces, the Singapore Police Force or the Singapore Civil Defence Force who have performed "''acts of exceptional courage and skill or exhibited conspicuous devotion to duty in circumstances of extreme danger''". The badge may be awarded posthumously, although it has never been awarded since its inception. Recipients of the honour are entitled to use the post-nominal letters BT. The badge is to be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended from a ribbon. Yong Pung How (11 April 1926 – 9 January 2020) was a Malayan-born Singaporean judge, lawyer and banker who served as the second chief justice of Singapore between 1990 and 2006, appointed by President Wee Kim Wee. He also served as the chancellor of the Singapore Management University between 2010 and 2015. Early life and education Yong was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaya, in an ethnic Chinese family with Hakka ancestry from Dabu County, Guangdong, China. His father, Yong Shook Lin, was a lawyer who founded the law firm Shook Lin & Bok. After completing his early education at Victoria Institution, Yong went on to read law at Downing College, Cambridge University. Wee Kim Wee
Wee Kim Wee ( zh, s=黄金辉, poj=Ûiⁿ Kim-hui, p=Huáng Jīnhuī, first=s,poj,p; 4 November 1915 – 2 May 2005) was a Singaporean journalist and diplomat who served as the fourth president of Singapore from 1985 until his resignation in 1993. Prior to his presidency, Wee served as Singapore's High Commissioner to Malaysia between 1973 and 1980, Ambassador to Japan between 1980 and 1984, and Ambassador to the Republic of Korea between 1981 and 1984 before being elected by the Parliament. For the ensuing initial presidential election, the first in Singapore to be decided by popular vote, Wee decided not to contest and retired after his second term had ended.
