Darius Van Arman
Darius Van Arman is an American businessman, co-founder, and co-owner of Secretly Group, an independent label group that is based in Indiana. Early life Van Arman's father was a math professor who grew up in Detroit. Education and early career In 1995 he studied mathematics at the University of Virginia. Van Arman founded the Jagjaguwar record label in 1996 in Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1999, Van Arman dropped out of school, moved to Bloomington, Indiana, and became partners with Chris Swanson, and together began the Secretly Group. Van Arman currently serves on the boards of A2IM, SoundExchange and Merlin. The Secretly Group includes the Secretly Canadian and Jagjaguwar labels, Dead Oceans and The Numero Group. Secretly Group
Secretly Group is a family of American independent record labels based in Bloomington, Indiana. The group is made up of Secretly Canadian, Jagjaguwar, and Dead Oceans. Secretly Canadian, the first of the labels, was formed in 1996 by brothers Chris and Ben Swanson, Eric Weddle, and Jonathan Cargill. Their first release was a re-issue of an album by June Panic. Weddle later left to form label Family Vineyard; the remaining trio were joined by Darius Van Arman, as well as his label Jagjaguwar, in 1999. Dinosaur Jr. is an American rock band formed in Amherst, Massachusetts, in 1984, originally simply called Dinosaur until legal issues forced a change in name. The band was founded by J Mascis (guitar, vocals, primary songwriter), Lou Barlow (bass, vocals), and Murph (drums). After three albums on independent labels, the band earned a reputation as one of the formative influences on American alternative rock. Creative tension led to Mascis firing Barlow, who later formed Sebadoh and Folk Implosion. His replacement, Mike Johnson, came aboard for three major-label albums. Major Lazer is an American electronic dance music DJ trio, which includes record producer Diplo, and DJs Walshy Fire and Ape Drums. It originates from Kingston, Jamaica, and was founded in 2008 by Diplo and Switch, with Switch leaving after three years in 2011. He was then replaced by both Jillionaire and Walshy Fire.
