Darezhan Omirbaev ( kk, Дарежан Омiрбаев, ''Darejan Omırbaev''; born 15 March 1958) is a Kazakh film director and screenwriter. Work Omirbaev has directed nine films since 1982; six features, one medium length digital film, and three shorts. His second short, ''Shilde,'' shot in black and white, is autobiographical, as are his first two features ''Kairat'' (also shot in black and white) and '' Cardiogram'', which premiered at the 52nd edition of the Venice Film Festival, winning the CICT/UNESCO Prize. '' Tueur à gages'', a crime story inspired by Tolstoy's "The Forged Coupon", screened in the Un Certain Regard section at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Prize Un Certain Regard. Akkol ( kz, Ақкөл, ''Aqköl'', zh, 阿科尔), formerly known as ''Alexeyevka'' (russian: italic=yes, Алексеевка, until 1997), is a town in northern Kazakhstan. ''Zhizn'' ( rus, Жизнь, p=ˈʐɨzʲnʲ, a=Ru-жизнь.ogg, ''"Life"'') was a Russian magazine published first in Saint Petersburg (1897-1901), then in London and Geneva (1902). ''Zhizn'' began its existence as a general purpose magazine in January 1897. For the first two years it was edited, at various times, by S. V. Voejkov, D. M. Ostafyev, M. V. Kalitin, and M. S. ''Poet'' ( kk, Ақын, ''Akyn'') is a 2021 Kazakhstani drama film written and directed by Darezhan Omirbaev. Based on ''The Author’s Evening'' by Hermann Hesse, the film depicts story of Didar, a poet chained to his day job in a small newspaper. While reading about a 19th century famous Kazakh poet, Makhambet Otemisuly, who was executed by the authorities, he feels deeply shaken, realizing how difficult and fragile is the life of a poet.
