Daredevil Falls
Daredevil Falls is a water ride located in Dollywood, consisting of a pipe-like tunnel and a 60 degree drop. History The ride opened in April 1998 as a replacement of the old Flooded Mine attraction like the one at the sister park to Dollywood, Silver Dollar City , and was manufactured by Hopkins Rides of Contoocook, New Hampshire. A flooded mine is one of the direct results of a mine's closure procedure. When a mine stops operating, its maintenance systems also stop, in which the dewatering systems are included. Without these systems the mine will get flooded by water that naturally occurs in rock formations in the ground. Overview Mining operations can occur over a long period of time, from several years to several decades, and in order to keep the mining operations running, water has to be removed from the mine as it accumulates. After the mine is closed, when its operational life ends, the maintenance systems stop, including the dewatering systems. Silver Dollar City is a amusement park in Stone County, Missouri, near the cities of Branson and Branson West. Hopkins Rides is an amusement ride manufacturer based in Palm City, Florida. The company has had experience in amusement rides for over 45 years and currently specializes in water rides. History In 1962 O.D. Hopkins incorporated Hopkins Engineering and started installing ski lifts for J.A. Roebling & Sons of Trenton, New Jersey. In 1965 Hopkins purchased the ski lift division and all the related assets from Roebling & Sons. Soon afterwards a competitor, Universal Design Ltd., discontinued manufacturing Sky Rides, and their customers turned to Hopkins Engineering for parts.
