Dardanelle Agriculture And Post Office
The Dardanelle Post Office, originally the Dardanelle Agriculture and Post Office, is a historic government building at 103 North Front Street in downtown Dardanelle, Arkansas. It is a single-story brick building, with a hip roof. It has a five-bay front facade, with a center entrance flanked by pilasters and topped by a panel, transom window, and dentillated entablature. Built in 1937, it has modest Colonial Revival style, and is most notable for the mural in the lobby, painted in 1939 by Ludwig Mactarian, and entitled ''Cotton Growing, Manufacture and Export''. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. Dardanelle, Arkansas
Dardanelle is a city in northeast Yell County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 4,745 at the 2010 census. Along with Danville, it serves as a county seat for Yell County. It is located near Lake Dardanelle. Dardanelle is part of the Russellville Micropolitan Statistical Area. History Dardanelle is one of the oldest cities in the state of Arkansas. Officially incorporated in 1855, Dardanelle celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2005. However, the area had been settled for years before that, first being established as a river town in the mid-18th century. It is Yell County's dual county seat, sharing that title with Danville. Arkansas ( ) is a landlocked state in the South Central United States. It is bordered by Missouri to the north, Tennessee and Mississippi to the east, Louisiana to the south, and Texas and Oklahoma to the west. United States Post Office Murals
United States post office murals are notable examples of New Deal art produced during the years 1934–1943. They were commissioned through a competitive process by the United States Department of the Treasury. Some 1,400 murals were created for federal post office buildings in more than 1,300 U.S. cities. Murals still extant are the subject of efforts by the U.S. Postal Service to preserve and protect them. In 2019, the USPS issued a sheet of 10 Forever stamps commemorating the murals.
