Danshui River
The Tamsui River (alternatively Danshui River, ) is third longest river in Taiwan after Zhuoshui River and Gaoping River, with a total length of , flowing through Hsinchu County, Taoyuan, Taipei and New Taipei City. It is located in northern part of the island. Geography The Tamsui River begins at the confluence of Xindian River and Dahan River at the western boundary of Taipei and New Taipei City, just north of Banqiao District, and flows northward and northwestward, passing the eponymous Tamsui District, then emptying into the Taiwan Strait. Formerly known as the "Dolatok River", it is one of the few rivers in the island that flows along a north–south direction. The river's three tributaries are the Xindian River, Dahan River and Keelung River. Taipei Bridge (, informally ) is a motor-vehicle bridge across the Tamsui River connecting Taipei with Sanchong District, New Taipei City in Taiwan. A central span carries automobile and some motorcycle traffic while narrower spans on either side carry most motorcycle traffic along with bicycle pedestrian traffic. Its leader is the Premier, who is appointed by the President of the Republic of China, and requires confirmation by the Legislative Yuan. Taipei City Government
The Taipei City Government (TCG) is the municipal government of Taipei. History The Taihoku City Government was founded on 10 October 1920 in Taihoku Prefecture during Japanese colonial rule. The original city hall was located at the site of the Taihoku City Hall (modern-day Zhongshan Hall) in Zhongzheng District. After Taiwan was handed over to the Republic of China on 25 October 1945, Taipei became a provincial municipality and was renamed to Taipei City Government even though the city was the capital city of Taiwan Province but it moved to Zhongxing New Village from 1956. Taipei Basin
The Taipei Basin () is a geographic region in northern Taiwan. It is the largest basin in Taiwan. The basin is bounded by the Yangmingshan to the north, the Linkou Plateau to the west, and the Ridge of Xueshan Range to the southeast. The shape of the basin is close to a triangle. The three vertices are Nangang, Huilong of Xinzhuang, and Guandu of Beitou. The main rivers in the Taipei Basin include the Tamsui, Keelung, Dahan and Xindian. In the prehistoric era, the Taipei Basin was home to Ketagalan tribes. Han Chinese did not settle in the region until the 18th century. Erchong Floodway
The Erchong Floodway () is a major flood control channel of the Tamsui River in New Taipei, Taiwan. Description The Erchong Floodway is approximately long and between and wide covering an area of about in the centre of the Taipei metropolitan area. Located on the left bank of the Tamsui River in New Taipei, the floodway passes through the districts of Sanchong, Xinzhuang, Wugu, and Luzhou. Generally following the path of smaller natural tributaries of the Tamsui, the Erchong Floodway is separated by as much as from the main course of the Tamsui.
