Danniel Thomas-Dodd
Danniel Thomas-Dodd (née Thomas, born 11 November 1992) is a Jamaican athlete whose specialty is the shot put. She finished 4th in the shot put finals at London's 2017 World Championships in Athletics and the following year she won silver at the Indoor World Championships. In addition, she finished fifth at the 2015 Pan American Games. She has a personal best and the Jamaican national record in the shot put of 19.77 metres outdoors, set in 2023. Indoors, she registered a 19.22 metre throw at Arena Birmingham, Birmingham, England. She also has a personal discus best of 59.38 metres set in Akron in 2014. In July 2021, she qualified to represent Jamaica at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Westmoreland Parish
Westmoreland is the westernmost parish in Jamaica, located on the south side of the island. It is situated south of Hanover, southwest of Saint James, and northwest of Saint Elizabeth, in the county of Cornwall. The chief town and capital is Savanna-la-Mar. Negril, a famous tourist destination, is also situated in the parish. History The earliest inhabitants of Westmoreland were the Arawak and Ciboney Indians. The Ciboney were first to arrive, from the coast of South America, around 500 BC. Known as "cave dwellers", they lived along the cliffs of Negril. The labyrinth of caves and passageways beneath what is now the Xtabi Hotel in Negril are one of the first known settlements of Ciboney Indians in Jamaica. The Pan American Games (also known colloquially as the Pan Am Games) is a continental multi-sport event in the Americas featuring summer sports, in which thousands of athletes participate in a variety of competitions. Athletics was one of ten core sports that appeared at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. As a founding sport, athletics has appeared consistently since its introduction at the 1911 Inter-Empire Games; the recognised precursor to the Commonwealth Games. The competition took place between Sunday 27 July and Saturday 2 August at the temporarily modified Hampden Park, Scotland's national football stadium. The programme commenced with the 26.2 mile marathon, which started and finished at Glasgow Green and included numerous para-sport events throughout. Racewalking events were dropped from the programme for 2014 – a move condemned by walking athletes. Sarah Mitton
Sarah Dawn Mitton (born 20 June 1996) is a Canadian athlete specializing in the shot put. She is the 2023 World silver medallist and 2024 World Indoor champion, the first Canadian woman to medal in the shot put at either World Athletics global championship. As well, she is the 2023 Pan American, 2022 Commonwealth, and 2019 Summer Universiade champion. Mitton represented Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics, and holds both the indoor and outdoor national records in women's shot put. Akron () is the fifth-largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and is the county seat of Summit County. Arena Birmingham (known for sponsorship reasons as Utilita Arena Birmingham, and previously as The Barclaycard Arena and originally as the National Indoor Arena) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, United Kingdom.
