Danish Geodata Agency
The Danish Geodata Agency (GST) ( da, Geodatastyrelsen), (previously National Survey and Cadastre of Denmark ( da, Kort & Matrikelstyrelsen, short KMS)), is the Danish state owned central agency responsible for surveying, mapping and land registering of all of Denmark, Greenland, the Faroe Islands and all waters associated with these. Geodatastyrelsen is an agency under the Danish Ministry of the Environment. The overall goal of Geodatastyrelsen is to supply and ensure that everyone in the Danish society has access to reliable and accurate maps and information on all parts of the Realm. Until 31 December 2004, KMS was a Sector research institute for the Ministry of the Environment in the fields of seismology, geodynamic and geodesy. The Cabinet of Denmark ( da, regering) has been the chief executive body and the government of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1848. The Cabinet is led by the Prime Minister. There are around 25 members of the Cabinet, known as "ministers", all of whom are also heads of specific government ministries. The Cabinet has usually been composed of Ministers from two or more parties forming a coalition government. Still, most of these governments have been minority governments, relying on the support of still other parties. Cabinets are formally appointed by the Monarch. In practice, once a government has stepped down, there is a fixed set of rules for appointing an investigator (most often the future Prime Minister), with the job of trying to form a new government. Geodesy ( ) is the Earth science of accurately measuring and understanding Earth's figure (geometric shape and size), orientation in space, and gravity. Some national mapping agencies also deal with cadastral matters. According to 2007/2/EC European directive, national mapping agencies of European Union countries must have publicly available services for searching, viewing and downloading their spatial data. Maps produced by some of them are available under a free license that allows re-use, such as a Creative Commons license. The Royal Danish Nautical Charts Archive () was a Danish Navy department, responsible for making accurate nautical charts for the Danish government, primary the Navy, for nearly 200 years. Its former building at Toldbodvej, now Esplanaden, was also the first home of the Danish Meteorological Institute. The building was used as an extension office for Maersk Group services, but is being renovated and will soon house the Maersk Foundation offices. History The Royal Danish Nautical Charts Archive was initiated by royal resolution of 25 October 1784, at the initiative of a naval captain, Poul Løvenørn, who would also become the first director of the department. It was originally located on Holmens Kanal, next to Holmen Church. Geodætisk Institut
Geodætisk Institut (1928–1987) was a Danish state-run cartographic institute. It was created by law number 82, of 31 March 1928, combining Generalstabens Topografiske Afdeling and Den danske Gradmaaling, two institutions that did somewhat overlapping cartographic and topographic mapping of Denmark. It was initially part of Ministry of War (Krigsministeret), later Ministry of Defence (Forsvarsministeret). In the years 1940–1953 ''Geodætisk Institut'' made the second nationwide precision landscape levelling of Denmark. The first was done 1885–1905 by ''Den danske Gradmaaling''. The height fix point remains Århus Domkirke ( Dansk Normal Nul (DNN)), as established in 1905. A third levelling was done 1982–1994. This formed the basic for the new height system DVR90, replacing DNN. The height fix point remains Aarhus Domkirke, however its kote was changed from 5.6150m to 5.570m in DVR90. Danish National Space Center
The National Space Institute at the Technical University of Denmark, also known as DTU Space ( da, Institut for Rumforskning og Rumteknologi), is a Danish sector research institute and a part of the Technical University of Denmark. It has a staff of 169, including researchers, engineers, and technicians. The institute conducts research in astrophysics, Solar System physics, geodesy, and space technology. To conduct the research, the Institute collaborates with the Niels Bohr Institute for Astronomy, Geophysics and Physics. It came about as a result of combining the Danish Space Research Institute with the geodesy part of the National Survey and Cadastre of Denmark on 1 January 2005 to form the Danish National Space Center (DNSC). In 2007, the DNSC merged with the Technical University of Denmark, and in 2008 changed its name to DTU Space.
