Danielle Ponter
Danielle Ponter (born 8 January 2000) is an Australian rules footballer playing for Adelaide Football Club in the AFL Women's (AFLW). She played for St Mary's and Essendon in her junior career, typically as a forward. Ponter was selected with pick 48 in the 2018 AFL Women's draft and made her debut in round 2 of the 2019 season. She was nominated for the 2019 AFL Women's Rising Star award in round 4. Early life Ponter was born in Darwin, Northern Territory. She had a strong footballing background as part of the noted Rioli–Long family; she is the niece of former Essendon player Michael Long and the cousin of former Hawthorn footballer Cyril Rioli. AFL Women's Under 18 Championships
The NAB AFL Women's Under-18 Championships are the annual national Australian rules football championships for women players aged 18 years or younger. The competition is seen as one of the main pathways towards being drafted into a team in the professional AFL Women's competition (AFLW). Originally known as the ''AFL Youth Girls National Championship'', the competition has teams of players representing their states and territories in a round robin tournament. Aasta O'Connor (born 21 June 1987) is a retired Australian rules footballer who played as a ruck for and for in the AFL Women's competition. She is also a member of the Darebin Falcons' VFL Women's team. Early life O'Connor was born in Brisbane and raised on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland. She attended Immanuel Lutheran College throughout her upbringing and began playing football for the Northshore Jets under 10s mixed team in the local Sunshine Coast junior league. At the age of 18, O'Connor moved to Brisbane and began playing top level QAFLW football for the Logan Cobras. Best And Fairest
In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. Cyril Rioli (born 14 July 1989) is a former Australian rules football player who played with the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League. Rioli was a member of four premiership teams and the Norm Smith Medallist from the 2015 AFL Grand Final. Primarily a forward pocket, Rioli also spent time in the midfield, although injuries limited his ability to spend long periods in the midfield. Michael Long (footballer)
Michael Long (born 1 October 1969) is a former Australian rules footballer of Aboriginal descent who became a spokesperson for Indigenous rights and against racism in sport. Long was an accomplished player, having played in dual Australian Football League premierships with the Essendon Football Club including a Norm Smith Medal for his 1993 performance. As an activist, he is credited with being instrumental in the introduction of a racial vilification code in the AFL in 1995 and the inspiration behind "The Long Walk" commemorating the Stolen Generation, now a strong AFL tradition.
