Daniela Kerck
Daniela Kerck is a German scenic designer and stage director who has worked internationally. She directed and created the stage for Jörg Widmann's opera ''Babylon'' that opened the 2022 Internationale Maifestspiele Wiesbaden in 2022, and again for Puccini's '' Turandot'' for the 2024 festival. Her staging of the world premiere of Søren Nils Eichberg's ''Oryx and Crake'' was nominated for the 2023 International Opera Awards. Life and career Kerck studied stage design at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Erich Wonder. Her thesis was titled "Every Room is the Centre of the World". She worked as Wonder's assistant at the Zürich Opera House, the Berlin State Opera and the Bavarian State Opera, among others. The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (german: link=no, Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien) is a public art school in Vienna, Austria. History The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna was founded in 1692 as a private academy modelled on the Accademia di San Luca and the Parisien Académie de peinture et de sculpture by the court-painter Peter Strudel, who became the ''Praefectus Academiae Nostrae''. In 1701 he was ennobled by Emperor Joseph I as ''Freiherr'' (Baron) of the Empire. With his death in 1714, the academy temporarily closed. The Vienna Volksoper (''Volksoper'' or ''Vienna People's Opera'') is an opera house in Vienna, Austria. It produces three hundred performances of twenty-five German language productions of opera, operetta, musicals, and ballet, during an annual season which runs from September through June. Rusalka (opera)
''Rusalka'' (), Op. 114, is an opera ('lyric fairy tale') by Antonín Dvořák. The Czech libretto was written by the poet Jaroslav Kvapil (1868–1950) based on the fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová. A rusalka is a water sprite from Slavic mythology, usually inhabiting a lake or river. ''Rusalka'' was the ninth opera Dvořák composed. It is one of the most successful Czech operas, and represents a cornerstone of the repertoire of Czech opera houses. Dvořák had played viola for pit orchestras in Prague (the Estates Theatre from 1857 until 1859 while a student, then from 1862 until 1871 at the Provisional Theatre). ''The Minutes'' is a comedic play written by Tracy Letts. It had its premiere at the Steppenwolf Theater in Chicago on November 9, 2017, and began previews at the James Earl Jones Theatre in New York City on February 25, 2020. It was scheduled to open on March 15, 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, production was suspended. The production ultimately opened on April 17, 2022, at Studio 54. Joshua Harmon (born 1983) is a New York City-based playwright, whose works include ''Bad Jews'' and ''Significant Other (play), Significant Other'', both produced Off-Broadway by Roundabout Theatre Company. The Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden ('Hessian State Theatre Wiesbaden') is a German theatre located in Wiesbaden, in the German state Hesse. The Aalto Theatre (Aalto-Theater) is a performing arts venue in Essen, Germany, and is home to the city's opera company Aalto-Musiktheater and the ballet company Aalto Ballett. Tatjana Gürbaca (born 1973, Berlin) is a German opera director. Early life Gürbaca was born in 1973 in Berlin, Germany to a Turkish father and an Italian mother. Peter Konwitschny
Peter Konwitschny (born 21 January 1945 in Frankfurt am Main) is a German opera and theatre director. Biography Peter Konwitschny grew up in Leipzig, where his father Franz Konwitschny was principal conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. After an aborted study of physics, he studied theatre direction from 1965 until 1970 in Berlin. In the 1970s, Konwitschny worked as an assistant director with Ruth Berghaus at the Berliner Ensemble. From 1980 onwards he chiefly worked as a free-lance director. During this period he directed both opera and theatre productions in Berlin, Halle, Greifswald and Rostock.
