Daniel Sernine
Alain Lortie, commonly known under the pseudonym Daniel Sernine, is a French Canadian writer. Biography Sernine obtained a Bachelor's in history in 1975 and a Master's in library science in 1977, both from the University of Montréal. He dedicated himself to writing in 1975, usually science-fiction, fantasy and books for young adults. His first short stories (''Jalbert'' and ''La bouteille'') were published in the magazine ''Solaris'', then called ''Requiem'', in 1975. In 1979, he published his first novel, ''Organisation Argus'', as well as two collections of short stories, ''Les Contes de l'ombre'' and ''Légendes du vieux manoir''. Sernine has published novels and collections for adults, young adults, and children, and has won multiple awards for his works. He is also credited with a hundred articles and essays dedicated to the fields of writing, publishing, astronomy, science-fiction and fantasy. Aurora Award For Best Novel
The Aurora Awards are granted annually by the Canadian SF and Fantasy Association and SFSF Boreal Inc. The Award for Best Novel was first awarded in 1982 as the Award for Best Outstanding Work and is two awards, one granted to an English-language work and one to a French-language work. Until 1989 it was dedicated to any works, including non-novel length works. It became a dedicated category in 1989 as the Award for Best Long Form (French: Meilleur Livre). It became the Award for Best Novel (French: Meilleur Roman) in 2011, when the Prix Aurora and Prix Boreal combined. No winner was awarded in 1983 and 1986, but shortlists were created. Robert J. Sawyer has won the English-language award the most times (eight times), and Élisabeth Vonarburg has won the French-language award the most times (seven times). Boréal (French: Congrès Boréal) is an annual French-language science fiction and fantasy convention in Canada, held in a number of different cities since its founding in 1979, though all of them, save Ottawa in 1989, were located in the province of Quebec. Major events of the convention include the panel discussions, the Guest of Honour presentations, the dealer's room, and the awards ceremony.
