Daniel Omolo
(Jonathan) Daniel Omolo was an Anglican bishop in Kenya during the last third of the twentieth century. Omolo was educated at St. Paul's University, Limuru. He was ordained deacon in 1957 and priest in 1959. An assistant bishop in the Anglican Communion is a bishop appointed to assist a diocesan bishop. Church of England In the established Church of England, assistant bishops are usually retired (diocesan or suffragan) bishops – in which case they are ''honorary assistant bishop''s. Historically, non-retired bishops have been appointed to be assistant bishops – however, unlike a diocesan or suffragan they do not hold a see: they are not the "Bishop of Somewhere". Some honorary assistant bishops are bishops who have resigned their see and returned to a priestly ministry (vicar, rector, canon, archdeacon, dean etc.) in an English diocese. David Gitari
David Mukuba Gitari (16 September 1937 – 30 September 2013) was a Kenyan Anglican archbishop. He was the third primate and archbishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya, from 1997 to 2002, and at the same time, Bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi. He was married to Grace Wanjiru, since 1966, and they had three children. Early life and religious career Gitari studied at the Kangaru High School, in Embu, and at the University of Nairobi, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree. He was ordained an Anglican priest in 1972 by Bishop Obadiah Kariuki. He was consecrated the first bishop of the Diocese of Mount Kenya East on 20 July 1975, aged only 37 years old. He was the founder of St. Andrews College of Theology and Development in Kabare. He remained in office until 1990, when the Diocese of Mount Kenya East was divided into two new dioceses, Embu and Kirinyaga. A provost is a senior official in a number of Christian Churches. Historical development The word ''praepositus'' (Latin: "set over", from ''praeponere'', "to place in front") was originally applied to any ecclesiastical ruler or dignitary. It was soon more specifically applied to the immediate subordinate to the abbot of a monastery, or to the superior of a single cell, and it was defined as such in the Rule of St Benedict. The dean (''decanus'') was a similarly ranked official. Chrodegang of Metz adopted this usage from the Benedictines when he introduced the monastic organization of canon-law colleges, especially cathedral capitular colleges. The provostship (''praepositura'') was normally held by the archdeacon, while the office of dean was held by the archpriest. In many colleges, the temporal duties of the archdeacons made it impossible for them to fulfil those of the provostship, and the headship of the chapter thus fell to the dean.
