Daniel Levavasseur
Daniel Louis Luc Levavasseur (born 1 January 1948) is a French fencing master specialized in épée. Career Levavasseur took up association football and fencing at FC Sochaux. He took the certification of fencing master at the Inter-Army School of Physical Training and Sports (in french: École interarmées d'entraînement physique et des sports) in Joinville-le-Pont, then came back to Belfort to assist his first master.. He managed his own club in Besançon for a few years before being named head coach to the junior French team from 1981 to 1982, then assistant coach to the senior women's épée and foil teams from 1982 to 1984. After the Los Angeles Games he took over the senior men's épée team, leading them to an Olympic title in the Seoul Games. Sherraine Schalm
Sherraine Schalm, formerly Sherraine Schalm-MacKay (born June 21, 1975), is a former top-ranked Canadian Olympic épée fencer. She is a World Cup medal winner, elementary school teacher and author. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa. At the 2005 World Fencing Championships she won a bronze medal in the individual épée event, becoming the first Canadian to ever win a World Championships medal in the sport. The next season, in 2005–06, she won the overall World Cup title. Born in Brooks, Alberta, Schalm has earned the best ever results for any Canadian woman fencer at the world championships, the Olympic Games and is a four-time medallist at the Pan American Games. Grip (sport Fencing)
In fencing, the grip is the part of the weapon which is gripped by the fencer's hand. There are two types of grips commonly used today in competitive foil and épée: French, which is a straight grip with a pommel at the end of it, and the orthopedic or pistol grip. Virtually all high level foil fencers use a pistol grip; in épée, both types are used. Both kinds of grip optimize hitting with the point of the sword (a 'thrust'), which is the only way to score a touch with a foil or épée. There are a number of grips which are no longer common or are currently illegal in competitive fencing. The Italian grip is legal but is not used commonly. A number of grips which combine a French grip pommel with pistol grip style prongs are illegal for competition. The rationale for these grips being illegal is that they would allow both the extended reach of the French and the added strength of the pistol grip. Li Na (; born 9 March 1981 in Dandong, Liaoning) is a Chinese épée fencer. She won a bronze medal in the women's team épée event at the 2000 Summer Olympics, and won gold in the same event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Li won the gold medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships, after beating France in the final.
